How would you rank the best martial arts-centered characters in Marvel
and DC comics? By this, I mean characters whose basic theme revolves
around the martial arts, such as Iron Fist. Actually, are there any
superheroes besides him with a martial art theme? Well, let's also
include characters who are known to heavily specialize in martial
arts, such as Batman and Daredevil.

I want to draw the line at mainly Human characters, tho. Should people
like Captain America, Deathstroke the Termintor, and Wolverine still
count for this, or are they effectively superhuman?

Lastly, is it right to say that Richard Dragon is DCs' equivalent to
Shang-Chi?

The list of DC martial artists would be like the list of Marvel mutants.

Fallen.

I think Karate Kid from the Legion trumpts them all, but he's like
totally super-powered I believe.

Marvel

Without ranking them, here are some Marvel Martial Artists:

Shang Chi
Iron Fist
Sons of the Tiger
both White Tigers
Daredevil
Stick
Electra
Silver Samurai
that old blind guy in Daredevil these days
Misty Knight
umm... Batroc Ze Leaper?

I would guess that The O-Sensei tops the list. He taught Richard
Dragon, who pretty much taught everybody else.

[that old blind guy in Daredevil these days]

Whatever happened to "Stick?"

Okay, I'll take this one on too. Note, some are better known for other
things, and trying to make an order would be almost impossible. Listing
everyone is also impossible so I'm putting in those who are known to
have some training. Since this is the Marvel board, I will do only the
Marvel characters. I will do the DC characters on their board.

Mantis

Shang Chi

Black Widow 1&2

Captain America (all incarnations to a degree)

Daredevil

Stick

Iron Fist & Other Immortal Weapons

Surviving Sons of the Tiger

White Tiger 1 (deceaed)

White Tiger 2

Bullseye

Lady Bullseye

Kingpin (Sumo counts)

Nick Fury

Elektra

Viper

Hawkeye/Ronin

Patriot (new)

Misty Knight

Coleen Wing

Diamondback

Hand ninja's

Silver Samurai

Mockingbird

Black Cat

Baltroc

Black Knight and El Aquilera (basics)

Black Panther

Shuri his sister

Blonde Phantom

Ricodonna

Scorpian (new girl)

Tarantuala

La Peregrine

Collective Man

Fin Fang Foom

Jimmy Woo

Mandarin

Temujin his son

Dr. Strange & Wong

Wolverine

X-23

Puck

Falcon

Punisher (special forces streetfighting style)

Amercan Dream & Freebooter (MC2)

In no way is this a complete list, feel free to add to it.

In my opinion, Wolverine shouldn't make any list of the best fighters
(hand to hand or otherwise)...he really isn't much of a fighter...take
away that healing factor and he'd have died in virtually any fight
he's ever had...he's the best there is at what he does...and what he
does best is BLEED.

Wolverine is samurai or at least ronin, that's, trained by Ogun for
years, he's more or less pemanatly dead, (until someone lazy writes the
book), which is why I didn't include him. Samurai counts.

The trouble with Martial Artists in a comics universe is this well-known
scene.

[ Ma Kettle looks on as Green Guacamole fights her nephew, the Texas
Jewboy. Lets have pages of this fight: TJ is thrown through plateglass
windows, kicked off a staircase, kicked through a wood wall, and long
winded GG is taunting the hero.]

GREEN GUACAMOLE: You're barely two decades old and I've been practicing
martial arts for two centuries!

GREEN GUACAMOLE (cont'd): I'm twice as fast as you are and five times as
strong!

GREEN GUACAMOLE (cont'd): I killed your mom, your dad, your piano
teacher, the crabby guy next door, the cook at the lunch room, and a
tweety bird!

[Angry always, the GG lashes out and slaps Ma Kettle on the cheek.
Beaten to a pulp, the TJ gets angry and rushes to the GG, delivering a
colossal blow. The GG flies backwards, out cold.]

TJ: Don't you ever lay a hand on a woman in front of me!

It is always the same: the Fan''s Favorite is beaten up by a Bad Guy who
insults the Favorite, who makes a comeback in round 11 and wins by a KO.

Yes, he is a TRAINED fighter...but that doesn't make him a GOOD
fighter...and, since the original post asked about ranking the BEST, I
wouldn't count him.

Stupid thread. I am more interested in finding out who's the best cook.

Top 10 Movie Martial Artists:

1. Bruce Lee
2. Jet Li
3. Liu Chia Hui (Lau Kar Fair; "Gordon" Liu)
4. "Jimmy" Wang Yu
5. "Alexander" Fu Sheng
6. Chuck Norris
7. Donnie Yen
8. Sammo Hung
9. Jackie Chan
10. Seagal/Van Damme (tie)

I know Jackie should rank higher, but I'm just not a fan....

Some of these guys compare favorably with top Marvel martial artists
(that don't have superhuman powers)

I'm afraid that I'm going to have to remove the two-headed beast of
Seagal/Van Damme in deference to Bolo Yeung.

How could I forget the Chinese Hercules!

How about best masseuse? In no particular order:

* Reed Richards. Those rubber hands must be good for something.

* Daredevil. Hyper-sensitive touch is probably good for something
too.

* Spider-Man. Twice as powerful as any other masseuse, because he
can push *and* pull the skin with a single touch!

On the other end of the scale, we have Iron Man, Ghost Rider, and the
Man-Thing.

Movie list was interesting, but Jimmy Wang Yu should have been lower as,
despite a karate black belt, he was not really that great a martial
artist and is only important as a historical figure in martial arts
cinema. Sonny Chiba, Angela Mao Ying, Sho Kosugi, Cynthia Rothrock (as
first great American woman martial artist), could also make any list.

Jimmy opened the door for Bruce Lee and the rest. While not an
accomplished Martial artist, he was quite the streetfighter, I hear.

Sonny Chiba was an oversight, good call.

I definitely considered Sho & Mao Ying. Hell, I was practically in
love with Angela as a kid.

By the way, i was not ranking them on skill level, per se.

Yuen Biao & Tomisoburo Wakayama definitely deserve serious
consideration as well.

I agree. Wang Yu, with his portrayal of the one armed swordsman and the
gallant spearman was important in the historical context as I said.
Tyval loved Mao Ying more than anyone. He created a heroine for his
fanfics called 'China Doll' as tribute to her.
