Moniaive Comics Festival
4/5th Sept 2004

The fourth Moniaive Comics Festival to be held in Dumfries and
Galloway
takes place over the week of September 1-5th.

The festival was started four years ago as a Moniaive Action Project
initiative to boost tourism after the area was devastated by foot and
mouth.
All monies raised from the festival go back to the village of Moniaive
for
village events.

From Wednesday 1st September to Sunday 5th September the festival is
hosting
an
exhibition of original Dandy & Beano Artwork (courtesy of DCThompson)
in the
Masonic Hall. Exhibition runs 11.00 - 4.30 daily. Donations only.

party on Tuesday 31st August 7pm)

The weekend of 4/5th September sees Moniaive alive with comic strip
writers,
artists and
editors and all for Ł1.

There is a programme of workshops on both writing and art, free
signings and
sketchings, competitions, an animation workshop, demonstration of
computer
colouring and 3D work, a short video by Glasgow students, raffle,
fancy
dress parade, stalls, the infamous comic version of the OWeakest Linką
and a
OMudfingerą a superhero with strange mud-like powers will be wandering
the
streets on the look out for victims.

Entry is Ł1 for the weekend with children under 11 free. Free comic on
entry.

Events are staged in both Hotels and the Memorial Institute in
Moniaive -
all within a minutes walk of each other.

Lightning); John Wagner (writer and creator of Judge Dredd); Ferg
Handley
(writer Commando and Spiderman); Frank Quitely (artist X-men); Jon
Haward
(artist Spiderman); Dougie Braithwaite (artist The Hulk); Barry Kitson
(artist Legion of Superheros); David Bishop (writer 2000AD related
novels);
Graham Manley (artist DC Thompson); Maurice Heggie editor of the
Dandy;
Wayne Thompson, Karl Dixon (artists on Beanoąs Billy the Whizz, Beryl
the
Peryl etc.); Nigel Dobbyn (artist Power Rangers, Thunderbirds); Gerry
Moore
(Caricaturist); Stuart Croft-Perkins (Class of 79) and Jamie Grant
(artist
MacAlien of Moniaive) plus many more.
