I recently bought and read the FABLES TPB: Legends In Exile, collecting the
first 5 issues of this series.
After reading it tho, I was dissapointed.

So since the comics media have been so praiseful I wondered: Am I the only
one who was let down, or are there any more FABLES-readers who were let done
by this title, after giving it a try due to the hype this book got?

It was about as good as I thought it would be, which was fairly good. I had no
great expectations, so I have no great disappointment.

No. "Fables" is great. "Y: The Last Man," however, is overrated. It's good,
but hardly deserving of the glowing blurbs it has on its cover each month.

I liked the first Fables arc better than the second. The book doesn't make
me salivate on my way to the local comic shop, but it's a clever way to tie
in all of the characters from various nursery rhymes, Aesop, etc. Ought to
become more interesting when they attempt to win their homelands back.

I also read the TPB and found it a let-down. The concept was
interesting and there were a lot of nice details, but the story I
found unexciting and the artwork didn't seem to have any life. I
don't regret reading it, but I'm not likely to read more.

No, you're not alone. I quit after the first storyline. It's really not
that good. It's not even that original.

I'm with you. "Y" was ok...just didn't grab me like "Fables" has.

Interesting responses so far. As for me, I gave in to the hype and
picked up the tpbs for Fables and Y and enjoyed both immensely. I
loaned them to a friend and he was similarly impressed. I've since
picked up all the monthlies for both series and have yet to be
disappointed. These are the first Vertigo books I've ever been able
to get into.

Oh good -- it's not just me. I bought (foolishly) the first Y
collection, and was severely disappointed.

Glad to hear FABLES is better. However, I think I'll wait for the
Seattle Library to buy the first collection, and go from there.

Where does that quote come from? That gave me a chuckle.
