What are the origins of Gorilla Grod in current continuity? I thought
his intelligence was a result of his being one of the advanced apes of
Gorilla city, but in a recent Secret Origins of Super villains, it was
stated he gained his intelligence from exposure to a meteorite.

Also, has it ever been explained why Gorilla City even exits? How did
the apes get so clever anyway.

IIRC, a whole group of them were exposed to that meteor; Grodd was one of the
crowd. They and their descendents built Gorilla City.

This all happened sometime in the 1800's, and the transformed gorillas have a
long lifespan, so Grodd's still around, along with some others of that first
group.

As ever,

How long has this been the case with Gorilla city? I could've sworn it
was supposed to be a very old civilization. Has it been retconned, or
am I confused?

And what happened to the meteor?

Where is this spelled out?

While we're talking about Gorilla City...

Spoilers fot the JLApe annuals

Last years' annuals dealt with the Gorillas of Gorilla city. In the
beginning of it, they revealed their existence to man with the goal of
starting normal dipolomatic relationships. THen the good, sane king was
assasinated, the bad gorillas changed everyone into apes, and much mayhem
ensued. My question is: has anything happened with the Gorillas since? If
so, I've not noticed it.
