And, according to something I read in SFX magazine a while ago, Hugh Laurie
(Stuart Little's dad, George from Blackadder, Bertie Wooster etc.) is to
play Perry White.

He's probably better known currently as the lead actor in the TV series

I love Parker Posey, but I don't understand this choice at all.
The leap from Valerie Perrine* to PP is too great. Better that
they just write another henchwoman into the plot. It isn't as
if the current comics-Luthor doesn't hire loads of them.
Characters such as Teschmacher or Otis hae such the stink of camp
about them that I'd prefer they not recur.

or Carmen Electra or somebody like that.

They have that stink (about wich you're quite right) because of the way
they were written and played. Bryan Singer gave fair warning that this
new film would be carrying on from where the Reeve movies left off,
though, so you're going to have a certain set of characters. (Ma Kent
seems to be an exception, but a welcome one. She was dead as of
Superman III, but is alive again in Superman Returns.)
I'm really pleased with the casting here. Whatever else happens, the
presence of Spacey and Posey virtually guarantees that this new film
won't be another camp-ridden romp with silly villains.
I'm intrigued by what's going on here. I don't want to commit any
spoilers, but BlueTights.net has some spoiler material, as well as
pictures from the Kent farm they've built.

Slight correction: the new film is carrying on from where "Superman II"
left off. III and IV never happened.

I'm not familiar with Kevin Spacey. Can you recommend a movie where he
plays a convincing villain?

Also Swimming With Sharks and Glengarry Glen Ross. It's a shame
Spacey largely gave up playing dark characters in favor of sap like
K-Pax and Pay It Forward; hopefully Lex Luthor is his return to form.

There is no Miss Teschmacher in this film. Parker Posey is playing
Kitty Koslowski, "Lex Luthor's villainous henchwoman." Lex's
"right-hand man" is named Stanford, not Otis, and will be played by Kal
Penn.

Sorry...I actually meant "Miss Teschmacher" in a kind of "Gal Friday"
sense, which the quotes were meant to imply. I haven't read the script,
and didn't even know about the whole "takes place after Superman II" thing.
