Real-world answer: He's a virgin, because TPTB don't want to overly
tarnish the "wholesome" all-ages quality of the trademark.
DCU answer: He's a virgin, because he's far too cocky and self-confident
about his sex appeal to have actually done that much with it.
Cheers, Todd
>Ok, so that makes Batman, Robin and Superboy as DC virgins, who else?
Batman's not, since he got it on with Talia.
Robin definitely is, having passed up the chance with Ari.
But I'm still not convinced about Superboy. The ladies really like him, and he
likes the ladies. And, unlike Robin, I don't see him turning down the
opportunity. Remember the Superboy/CM Jr. team-up? Kon-El seemed mighty, uh,
"close" with the good Ms. Moon during the beach scene.
Thoughts?

It was strongly implied that he and Knockout had sex. It was all
part of her 'evil plot' to twist him to her will using her feminine
whiles (yawn). Anyway, he's probalby done it once... considering how
pupular he is in Hawaii, I'd say in the real world, he'd have done it
once a week!
My pal Shazam72 said:

Not so fast. Batman is a different story from Robin and Superboy. Even
though he's marketed to kiddies, he's marketed to kiddies =as an adult=.
So the implication that he's not a virgin is less likely to raise hackles,
because, it doesn't defy the "wait until you're an adult" message that
most people want to send to kids.
Cheers, Todd

My guess is that he's "unexperienced".
For most of his time in the DCU, the Kid was involved with Tana Moon.
The issue of his being underage was raised at one point, so I'm betting
that Tana wouldn't have risked the statutory charge.
Since breaking up with Tana, he at least hasn't been portrayed as having
much of an opportunity to hook up with anyone.
That leaves Knockout. For all that she teased him, I never got the
impression that he went (or would have gone) all the way with Knockout.
Jeff
KO certainly had no interest in statutory rape laws, and she was a very
"sexual being" in a warped kind of way-- but she and Superboy *did not*
have sex. She used the thought of it, the lure of it, to manipulate
Superboy, and made repeated allusions to the wonderful prize waiting
for him later-- but not quite yet.
I think he's a virgin. Despite his relationship with Tana Nile, I think
she would have felt like she was taking advantage of him if she had sex
with him. Doubtless, he could have almost any girl he wanted, but I
think his ideal of living up to being Superman one day would prevent him
from being a slut.

Knockout and Superboy most definitely didn't have sex. That was what
Knockout was working up to but didn't quite get there (oh and that last
sentence sounds more pornographic than it should). Knockout did a
striptease for him like she learnt in the Boom Boom Club. It was strongly
implied in the 'Losing It' story arc that sexual acts were the only way KO
( Oh, and belated spoilers for Superboy #26-#30)
knew to show affection for a man ("Fine by me.", I hear the male readers
reply). The striptease was because KO was touched by the way SB was
prepared to die fighting beside her versus 30 odd Female Furies. Then
she prayed to Darkseid about her shame in not dying (Dubbilex bailed them
out with a mind trick) and became Evil Empire builder Knockout. KO then
used further sexual acts to tag Superboy along with the promise of full sex if
he
killed Victor Vulcanum or whatever (yes, this was all Code Approved).
Rejecting sex with Knockout was probably what most men would have done
(then woken up for several further nights screaming in horror).
Superboy is a virgin and he's probably gay (or simply not _honestly_ interested
in sex) at that too. He rejected Triad of the Legion of Superheroes. If
anyone
is interested in a test for seeing if a male is heterosexual that is it. If a
man
says 'no' to a beautiful female of the same chronological age who can split
into
three of herself, then I'm sorry that man is not a heterosexual (or is married
to
someone of the power of Wonder Woman who has mind-reading powers -
Man, I've just worked out why everyone rejects Maxima....).

I *really* hope you just forgot to put in your smileys, because
otherwise, this is a really sad commentary. You know, there *are*
men who think it's wrong to sleep with someone they barely know
(and Superboy barely knows Triad). Furthermore, there *are* still
men out there who wouldn't cheat on their wife simply because it's
*wrong* to do so.
Having (what I consider to be) stronger morals has nothing to
do with sexual preference.

For that matter, Impulse probably does so too, maybe dozens of times a
day, if not more. And so fast, noone without a link to the speed force
would be able to see.
Robin most likely does it on roof tops during his slow times of his
nightly patrols.
This is a good question. I think Superboy probably thinks he's too cool
for masturbation. He and Tana probably got it on, and if not, then he's
been with some of those chicks that go all gooey over him--at least one
or two--even if it's not outright stated. As for Impulse, I doubt it's
even occurred to him for some reason. Tim's probably done it a couple of
times, but he's such a straight arrow, I doubt he does it anymore. He
probably thinks it's bad on some level.
But why stop with the young people of the DCU? Hell, I didn't stop when
I got older. Guys like Booster and Beetle probably can't keep their
hands off themselves. Wally probably wanked all through his formative
years and on-and-off afterward, depending on whether or not he had a
girlfriend at the time. With his speed, I'll bet his refractory period
is almost non-existant, which would be useful. Kyle, I'm sure, wanks
constantly, and probably does stupid things like shoot himself in the
eye.
Which leads us to the inevitable question of the "big 3." I doubt Wonder
Woman masturbates, although you'd think that would be an integral part
of the Amazons' isolated culture. Batman ... I dunno. Maybe. It's hard
to imagine, but a little release every now and then without the fuss and
time of a relationship that would interfere with his crusade might be
necessary just to keep his head straight. Imagine if Tim caught him one
day, though. THAT would be an awkward scene. Then, of course, there is
Superman. Despite my honestly believing that there is nothing wrong with
masturbation--indeed, I consider it a virtue!--I somehow cannot see
Superman doing this, even as a young man. He probably did it once or
twice in the heart of his adolescence, but found it ultimately
unsatisfying, lacking in the intimacy he would truly seek for such an
act. And so, with the reserve of willpower the Man of Steel has, he
probably just quit like it was nothing. No judgments passed on those who
DID do it regularly, but Clark just found it wasn't for him.
Of course, then there's Plastic Man, who probably actually does it in
the presence of others ...

Le's not forget that in an early issue of "The Ray," he discusses the fact that
a nun caught him doing something that embarassed them both, so we know young
Mr. Terrill is wankin' it, too.
I seriously doubt Impulse is doing anything sexual at all....now, maybe if he
could get hooked up to one of those kinky VR thingies...
And Robin's too "Mature" for that.
And I doubt any GL is yankin' it. I mean, if you have that ring, who needs a

Superboy, however is wankin' it all across the globe.

Oh, I don't know. After that "close encounter" with Ari, he probably
yanked the chain while thinking of how it would've been if he'd gone
along with her proposition.
And then being told by Stephanie that she was pregnant probably got
him thinking about her boinking...

Yeah, he seems kind of clueless. But after that run-in with the hot naked
chick in Bart Saves the Universe, he may have figured it out.
>And Robin's too "Mature" for that.
Nah. Tim doesn't have a "I'm too cool" attitude like that. Remember, he hangs
out with average (even somewhat dorky) kids like Ives. Tim and Ives probably
have even admitted it to each other. Overall, I'd say Tim would be much more
comfortable with it than Superboy.
As for Tim waxing the batpole during patrols, I've gotta think the lack of
access provided by the costume would make that pretty difficult. Of course, if
he's stalking Catwoman, you never know.

On-camera, I think Ra's Al'Ghul's daughter (Tahlia?) is the only one we

Best Lays of the DCU: Female: 1. Starfire (Tamaraanian culture) 2. Saturn
Girl (telepath) 3. Catwoman (athleticism and lack of inhibitions) Honorable
mention: Dream Girl (maybe ... she's certainly in the top 10 for "most
desired")
Male: 1. Martian Manhunter (shapechanger *and* telepath) 2. Plastic
Man/Elongated Man 3. Batman (can you imagine him doing *anything* badly?)
Honorable mention: Zauriel (got to be one of the most desired, if not
necessarily any good)
Any other nominees?

I'd heartily disagree. I can see once in awhile, just to keep up Bruce
Wayne's playboy image, but the rest of the day he's working on business,

Are you nuts?!?! He's -constantly- lusting after anything with
breats. The x-ray specs? Tana Moon? He even made remarks about
Supergirl, and she's practically family. I'm not saying he has or
hasn't yet, but he AIN'T gay (not that there's anything wrong with
that). It's just not in his character. He's supposed to be a
sex-starved teenager, that's his character.

I agree, this is anomolous, but I think it was the fact that only 1
the 3 aspects of her wanted to that weirded him out (or maybe he
didn't want to mess with the time-line, can't remember if he was in
the future, or they were stuck in the past).

I could buy that he talks a big game because he's is really just
intimidated by the whole thing.
Yep, but he's such a straight... arrow, that he wouldn't even allow
himself to THINK about the matter, so he is, of course, hopelesly scizo.
(Yeah, I know that Scizo is supposed to not be split personality

more humane manner and not go for short flings since he would have already
been exposed to the dignity of human life. With all his previous relations,
it wouldn't be far-fetched if he had sired a few kids out of wedlock, but
then it wouldn't really make a difference since Bruce has no Superpowers.
Superman - My guess is that Lana lost her virginity to Clark. I mean the
events in Superman For All Seasons clearly showed that Lana had a certain
attachement to Clark. Usually, girls get attached to men who gave them
their first time. As for Clark, he could have possibly lost it to Lana. I
would be pretty sure also that he mas have had had sex with Cat Grant
numerous times before he even laid his hands on Lois.
Well, any thoughts on this?

Actually, the Amazons are not that conservative. It's been strongly
suggested in at least one issue of Perez's run that some remain
celibate, but others form lesbian relationships. Depending on how
strictly you want to define "virgin", I'd say that the "practicing
lesbians" aren't virgins. Besides, it's also been shown that at one
point, Hercules and his army had conquered the Amazons, and that
many of the Amazons were undoubtedly raped, and therefore not virgins.

But Clark is the kind of guy who probably said "no". It seems pretty
clear that while Clark and Lana were very close friends, they were
never romantically involved. Which doesn't mean that they couldn't
have had sex. but I'd be surprised to hear that they did. It just
doesn't seem in character for them.

See above.

Why? Admittedly, there is a large gap in my Superman reading (for
the bulk of the 90s), but the Cat Grant in the comics never struck
me as being anything like the rather promiscuous Cat Grant of the
LOIS & CLARK tv series.

Don't forget that it was established in the Millenium crossovers of the
Superman titles that Lana had been a pawn of the Manhunters "programmed"
to spy on Clark during his early life in Smallville.

not quite, all the amazons were raped. originally that meant just kidnapping or
enslavement.
but i think we are stuck with the modern definition. therefore diana is the only
virgin amazon left. also the goddess diana was a virgin as well iirc. at first diana
would be more
comfortable as celibate or in a lesbian relationship. she has alot of antimale
prejudices to
overcome. over time her mission and duty would force her to consider a heterosexual
relationship with the worlds best alpha male.
superman is disqualified because he is an alien and he has lois.
an alliance with atlantis would be reasonable.
my vote is for the Batman. the most obvious choice.

being rich makes him a babe magnet. and he hired a good publicist to promote
the myth. he would avoid any risk of having children. he cannot stand the idea of
orphans,
abandoned children or deadbeat dads. just as he couldn't abandon dick grayson.
his learning of ibn's existance would mean an immediate declaration of war and he'd

more like clark lost his virginity to lana. that's when she found out he wasn't
such a meek mild-mannered geek and he was very super. as children they
probably played doctor too.

Gay men in the closet pretend to do that too. Not that I truly

This is why he looks gay. He _can_ have as much sex with the pick of
the worlds humans/metahumans/ humans in primary colours with odd bumps
on their heads who claim they are aliens, as he wants. He has this
big <S> on his chest and tactile-telekinesis. I'm not talking
Super-Orgies which he might think may be less than good behaviour for
a young Superman. The next point explained all.

Good explanation. Triad being a Superboy great * X granddaughter is a
serious problem. Although in the end all three aspects of Triad
lusted after Superboy. Not many women can honestly say that they
are 100% in lust with you. Triad did. Superboy took a powder.
Of course, as prementioned. Triad lusting after her great * X
grandfather. Yeuch!

So do gay men who are in the closet (pretend to lust after anything in
a skirt or left-handed zip trousers). I don't truly believe that
Superboy is gay. He is just written that way for some reason.

Yeah that's the thing. Acne-ridden, muscularity challenged Teenage
Victim I can believe can't get laid. Superboy has hoards of women
quite blatantly lusting after him. I can see how he wouldn't go for
Super-Orgies since that would bring bad press for the S-Shield.
However the following example should have brought scandalous rumours
all over the DCU (if someone had noticed and reported it back to his
own time).

All three aspects of Triad were in lust with him at the end. The only
explanation I'll accept is that he was worried that she might be his
granddaughter.

Yes, to both questions. The "main timeline" is the one we see every week
in half a dozen or so DCU monthlies. It's generally consistent from one
series to the next and from one year to the next. Always has been.
Hypertime doesn't change that, because the DCU editors know that a
generally consistent timeline helps maintain reader interest.

Only on a superficial level, on this point. My ability to identify young

Nope. In The Man of Steel it was established that Clark and Lana
weren't even boyfriend and girlfriend, they weren't in love. In Superman
#12 we discover Supes
first love to be Lori Lemaris. Now if that was retconned the Superman For
All seasons I can't be sure.

How did DC One Million retcon the Manhunters programming of Lana?

Nah. I'd say he's sane enough to know his fight won't be over when his body

If he did it, he'd perform the surgery himself. Or maybe with Alfred standing

THAT depends on your definition of 'virgin'. If you mean, never
having experienced intercourse, then maybe, but -my- definition is a
lot more inclusive!
>Batman - It just baffles me how Bruce Wayne became such a playboy. I cannot
-------snip--------
>then it wouldn't really make a difference since Bruce has no Superpowers.
I have a completely opposite take on this: I think Bruce would be
-way- too busy to bother with relationships. The various starletts and
babes we see him with in comics are just for show. He probably treats
them quite well, and they have a nice time, but he's got things to do
that he believes are far more important. He's probably had sex. He
could have sex basically anytime (he's an -extremely- elegable
bachelor), but if he does so with women that aren't in his real life
(as a superhero) he probably politely tells them that he's just
interested in a pleasant evening, and not much else. But then, that's
just my opinion.
>Superman - My guess is that Lana lost her virginity to Clark. I mean the

They're old, old friends, and sometime romantic attachments, and
yes, they probably did it in the barn one day when Ma and Pa were...
doing it in the house maybe? (Hey, you don't stay married for that
long if the sex is bad!)
>Usually, girls get attached to men who gave them

There's a blanket statement that I'm going to try not to associate
myself with!
>As for Clark, he could have possibly lost it to Lana.
Who else?
>I would be pretty sure also that he mas have had had sex with Cat Grant

I think he would be -very- careful about having short term
relationships. What happens when, in a fit of exstacy, he starts
floating around the room?
I also think that J'onn hasn't had any since he left Mars. He's still
married, according to Martian culture and, to be perfectly honest,
after shape-shifter love-making, can human-style really compare?
No need for smilies (Now or ever. Mike hate Smilies!!! Mike
SMASH!!!), since that was part of what the Losin' it arc actually did
refer to. His virginity, his innocence, his positive demeanour. In
the end he didn't lose any of these as Roxy Leech pointed out in the
final issue.
Mike Hall
Yes. I think it's absurd to assume that superheroes don't have the same
morality that some of us regular humans have, especially in the cases of the
Batman and Superman. I just can't see Superman doing anything besides kissing
someone before he's married, and the Batman is one of those people that's so
obsessed with what he does that he really doesn't care about the sex.
It's not like sex is something you can't live without. When you're as
dedicated to something as most of these superheroes are, and when you've got
the basic morality in you that you just don't WANT to fool around all the time,
or outside of marriage, then you just don't DO it. Like I said before, it's
entirely concievable -- there are millions of us normal people that are
abstinent.
-Aaron!
(And aside from that, the Batman probably considers his body pretty much a
temple and is wary of letting anyone get that physical... Not to mention how
sore he'd be after an evening of getting kicked, stabbed, shot, etc...)
Us do OPPOSITE of all Earthly things! Us HATE beauty! Us LOVE ugliness!

Y'know, I initially perceived this as meaning that Batman was the mother
of Robin.
Cognitive dissonance. Re-parse. Redo from start.

Your assumption that people who share your particular beliefs about sex are
"regular humans" and "normal people", and apparently that everybody who doesn't
is not "regular" and "normal" is fascinating, but a bit egocentric.
I'm sure that some superheroes have the same attitudes as you (which is fine by
me), and some don't. Just because a character is kind, decent, and protects
the innocent does not mean he or she believes that sex outside of marriage is
bad. I know plenty of kind, decent people - some of them doctors, teachers,
cops, fireman - who believe something different.
Maybe Superman isn't you.

Look, I'm not denying the existence of homosexuality, I'm just
saying that part of the premise of the character is that he's an
ultra-horny teenager. Whether he can put his money where his mouth is
(what an odd expression, in this context!) is a different matter. How
many of us (meaning guys) layed awake at night when we were 15 praying
for a gorgeous older woman to lust after us? And how many of us would
have chickened out if the situation actually presented itself?

Well...I think it depends on whether you consider the "Kingdom Come" and "The Kingdom"
books in continuity. In those, Ibn Al X'uffasch is the son of Batman and Talia,
daughter of Ras Al Ghul. She became pregnant after their rendezvous in the Graphic
Novel "Son of the Demon" (I think that's the name).
