Wonder Woman powerless on Paradise Island?

Okay, here's what happened. Bill Loebs needed Diana to lose the contest
to Artemis, so he retconned history by saying Hippolyte (who bizarrely
became a sorceress) put an "enchantment" on the island so that Diana would
have no powers on Paradise Island. And never had. There are a couple
problems with this. a) it eliminates every story ever written on Paradise
Island, including those of Loebs himself b) this was said BEFORE zero
hour, so it can't even be attributed to that lamo series (and overdone
excuse) and c) this was typical of the strange continuity glitches
introduced by Loebs.

When John Byrne took over the title he basically had a choice. Go with
continuity from the Perez era (which was consistent and all the stories
made sense) or from the Loebs era (which had constant inconsistencies).
Unfortunately, the two really can't both be observed as they directly
contradict each other in many ways. After studying both, John decided
that Perez continuity just made a heck of a lot more sense. And he
realized that most of the fans of Wonder Woman were upset by Loebs'
ignoring continuity. So he decided, no offense to Mr. Loebs, that when
there was a question or a conflict, to go with Perez continuity.

Now if this bothers you, just think of it this way. Hippolyte is
basically MIA in this story. If she is gone from Paradise Island, then
her "enchantment" would be too, therefore allowing Diana to have her
powers on PI.

Or you can see how silly the retcon was. In the issue we learn of this,
Wonder Woman #90, the beginning of the book has Diana on the island after
flying there from issue #89. It then has her deflect an arrow off her
bracelets (using speed granted by Hermes to do so, I assume, as normal
people couldn't really do this, nor have the other Amazons ever been shown
to be capable of this). By the end of the issue, we learn she cannot fly
on the island, nor does she have any powers. This means he actually
retconned the story after the first couple pages and the beginning of the
issue is no longer in continuity. To my knowledge, that's a record.

Seems a pretty good reason to ignore the retcon to me.
