Dear Friends :

This is the first time I have posted an article like this. Forgive me if you think
its subject inappropriate to the newsgroup you find it in but the cause is one
that is dear to me and I have tried to pick the n.g. where I think the greatest
fans will be found.

Toronto has a grand old art deco cinema / theatre called The Eglinton Theatre
(located uptown on Eglinton Avenue). It has ONE screen and seats around
800 people. It is part of the Famous Players chain.

As some of you may already know, the Eglinton Theatre is scheduled to close
for good sometime this year.

I've seen many wonderful films there. Most recently, the Canadian premiere
of The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring (John Rhys-Davies
and the director were in attendance). I believe it was the first in Toronto to be
certified with a THX sound system. The building is beautifully maintained and
the staff and management do the kind of job that shows they care. Movies like
Casablanca, The Wizard Of Oz, Star Wars, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Moulin
Rouge and Fantasia were MEANT to be shown in a theatre like this. The last
movie scheduled to show is the sing-along version of The Sound Of Music.

The link below will take you to a page where you can electronically sign your
name to a petition objecting to the closing of one of Toronto's last grand theatres.

I don't know if this will have any effect on the out-come but at least we'll know
we tried. Please take a moment to connect to this page and add your name to
the list. It will only take a minute. You will receive a letter after confirming your
name was added. There are no pop-up advertising windows and they do not
display your e-mail address. So don't worry that this is some ploy to sell you
anything. It's just a petition.

And if you agree, you might think about passing this on to other movie fans.

Many thanks,
Cliff Goldstein
