Knobbits - hand carved from cypress "knees" in designs inspired by
Tolkien. Many resemble Gandalf-like wizards.

I discovered these yesterday at Mountain Lake Resort in Southwest VA. I
thought some on the newsgroups might be interested and there's no previous
mention of knobbits according to the dejanews archives. A local
woodcarver, Bob Evans, has been carving the knobbits for over 20 years and
now has a Gallery at the Mountain Lake resort. There's also a website
where you can see a variety of knobbits: www.knobbit.com

(I am not affiliated with the carver in any way)

The URL doesn't seem to work for me ATM.

For a sec I thought you were referring to the User Friendly parody of LoTR:

Ahhh.... These posts brings back some wonderful memories.... I bought a
nice short hobbit
sized walking stick that he carved several years ago. When it is not in
use, I hang it on my wall...

Anyway, the web site is www.knobbits.com and he has been carving the most
wonderful
walking sticks for years.
