individual and group
associated with this major event.
This parade and demonstration was a great mobilization effort on the part
of Fiorello La Guardia
in concert with the Committe for Mobilization in his words " to give
tribute to enlisted men,
demonstrate America's solidarity with the U.N.,notify the enemy of the
high morale of the
citizens, encourage the citizens to an even greater war effort, show
people how important the
present achievements are so that everyone will adopt the slogan:"I NEED
AMERICA, AMERICA
NEEDS ME."
The Committee consisted of the Grand Marshal, Lieutenant General Hugh A.
Drum, with Deputy
Marshall, Vice Admiral Adolpus Andrews and the Army and Navy staff.
Grover Whalen was the
Chairman of the Committee, Treasurer, Edmond Guggenheim, and there were
many other
committees (all here on pages 6 and 7).All the funds for the
demonstration and parade were paid
for by private citizens and there is a long list (from pages 30-39). They
included many names
you will recognize. (My father who had a hosiery firm at that time was on
the list.)
The parade is described in great detail. Some of the description follows:
First the Prologue - Hitler Unlooses War
Death Rides- a skeleton on horseback. Death, an ancient cloaked sleketon
astride a decrepit
horse. Death beats a long roll on his kettledrums.
Hitler--The Axis War Monster.- A huge mechanical monster ejecting smoke
from nostrils,
trampling men, women and children underfoot; and driven by a skeleton
behind whom is Hitler
as the chief instigator of War. Monster's head and long neck sway back
and forth and his great
tail switches. With sound effects repeating twice each block a recording
in solemn voice story of
Hitler's unloosing war on the world, alternation with trumpet blasts.
There are 25 pages of description ending with the Torchlight Finale.
This program is an extraordinary piece of WWII NY history and if you
weren't there the first time,
you can recreate it now.

It is entirely possible that I am enquiring in the wrong
forum -- however perhaps some one here may ber able to help.
I am writing on behalf of two of the principals in the
Same-Gender marriage case being fought here in Hawaii. They
have neither the skills not the inclination to put together
such a book but DO have an interesting and timely story to
tell.
To this end, I am seeking a ghost-writer and/or an agent
with a proven track-record and some reasonable hope of
commercial success.
Thank you
Ward Stewart

I wonder what the fundamentalists and flat earthers are
going to make out of life on Mars? How will it sit with
the absurd creationists, with the theological Luddites?
Never a dull moment!!
