Preface by Alexander Woolcotts and Henry McBride. Wilson was a young
instructor in painting at Columbia University during 1917. As a French
interpreter during the War he was in the trenches and painted these for
the war Dept. and exhibited his work in Europe and America.

In this interesting book Zadkine has been able to achieve the feeling of
monumentality despite the small scale demanded by the page. The artist is
one of many sculptors who has adapted beautifully to illustrating books.
