I normally read books on history, biography and topography. However, having
read "Sarum", "London", "Russka" and currently part way through "The Forest"
all by Edward Rutherfurd (Francis Wintle), I would like to discover other
authors who write in this chronological, historically accurate and informative
style.
Has anyone got any suggestions.

Try James A. Michener. His stuff is the same idea as Rutherfurd's --
pick a place, and trace the paths of two or three families from
prehistoric times to the present.

John Masters wrote a series of novels following the Savage family through
the history of British India. Coromandel, The Deceivers, Night Runners
of Bengal, Bhowani Junction are titles that I remember.

Masters also wrote a one volume novel named The Rock (which I enjoyed
very much). It traces the history of the Rock of Gibraltar from
Neolithic times to present day.

Thomas Fleming is writing a series of novels following the fictional
Stapleton family through American history from colonial times until
the present. Fleming is a historian who writes straight history and
biography as well as historical fiction.

Patricia Wright wrote a couple of books very reminiscent of
Rutherford and Michener: _I Am England_ and _That Near And Distant
Place_. Both were originally published in England (Ms. Wright hails
from Sussex) by The Bodley Head and here in the USA by St. Martins. I
found them both to be well worth reading.

People tell me James Michener's novels are in a similar style. I haven't
got round to reading any of them yet so can't vouch for them. I think I
once read a book by Norah Lofts that was along those lines, but it was a
long time ago. Carolyn Deverson.

> Yes Norah Lofts does write in a similar vein The Town House Trilogy is one
and The House at Old Vine, well worth reading.
