My favourite library book when I was about 7 years old (circa
1965) was called, I think, "The Boy Who Drank The Sea". It was
about a Chinese boy who would hold the entire sea in his mouth
while his family fished off the dry bottom. Does anybody know
where I might procure a copy of this book? Thanks etc. in
advance...

I believe are talking about the Five Chinese Brothers by
Bishop. Each of five brothers has a special talent. One can
swallow the sea thus enabling his family to gather the fish.
One day a young boy runs further out and fails to return when
the Chinese brother indicates that he can no longer hold in the
sea. As a result the boy drowns. Each of the other brothers
special talents enable them to survive the different types of
punishments.

In the Seven Chinese Brothers the idea is similar, however
swallowing the sea is not one of the special talents.

This kind of reminds me of the "Five Chinese Brothers." The oldest
brother could hold the sea in his mouth. If I remember right, he
is sentenced to death because a little boy did not come back when
he motioned for the little boy to come back. The little boy ignored
him because he was too busy picking up things from the dry ocean bed
and when the sea could be contained no longer, it was curtains for the
little boy! The other brothers had unusal abilities like can't be
burned, has an iron neck, etc. They help the oldest brother escape
his death sentence.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the author's name off the top of my
head.
