There is LOTS of information about Bill Peet, including an autobiography
entitled _Bill Peet: An Autobiography_ which is available in
both paperback and hardback I believe. (Catchy title, eh?) Peet went to
work for Disney as an illustrator/animator working on Sleeping Beauty,
Fantasia, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan & 101 Dalmations. Peet went on
to create a variety of childrens books including Hubert's Hair-Raising
Adventure, Randy's Dandy Lions, Chester the Wordly Pig, Farewell to
Shady Glade and the Wump World. His autobiography is fascinating and
well worth the read.

------------
I love Bill Peet. This is why I love Bill Peet.
1. Everything about the animated 101 Dalmatians, especially
the house fronts and Sgt. Tibbs and the Colonel and
Cruella, Horace and Jasper. Also, Pongo, Perdita and
the others. I thought Perdita was prettier than Anita
which was unfortunate IMHO.
2. The tricks he used, i.e. Merlin's nose was supposedly
Walt's nose and other little tricks they did. Supposedly
animators do those tricks and sometimes their bosses don't
know about them i.e. I heard some people talking about
The Little Mermaid and if you play a part real slow it looks
like something that it shouldn't. And something about in
The Lion King when the flowers blow it spells a word backwards.
How these rumors get started is beyone me. Also, in Peter Pan,
one of the Lost Boys looks like the President of some country
that was getting ready to overthrow someone but I'm not sure
who.
3. I liked Bill Peet because while everyone else was sucking up
to Walt all the time evidently he wasn't. Evidently that didn't
help their relationship, but hey, he did it anyway.
4. I also admire Bill Peet for not changing his name, like so
many other people did. I'm sure it was very embarrassing to
grow up as a boy especially with a name like Peet. At least
his mother didn't name him Pete. Notice I didn't say "RE" as
we all are very familiar with that and far be it from me
to be "re"dundant. Haha. She could have named him Cuban, and
then he would have been named Cuban Pete. Which reminds one
of Desi Arnaz. She could have named him lots of other things
but thank god she named him Bill. I guess this means I love
his mother more in this paragraph than Bill.
5. The main reason I like Bill Peet is because if we didn't have
all the movies that he worked on like 101 Dalmatians, the
world would be a very different place today. McDonalds, wouldn't
be giving out 100 different dogs (is that really what their
ad means) and Glenn Close wouldn't be raking it in, even tho
I have no plans to see the film as I'm true to the original,
as I'm truly original and wouldn't be caught *dead* seeing that
rip off piece of crap that takes a wonderful, delightful film
such as that and screws the whole thing up by creating this
*thing* that looks like Richard Simmons is going to jog by with
his little dalmatians that he's always pictured with in magazines
and boy am I sick of those! Who cares what kind of dogs he has?
Does anyone know if Tom Cruise has dogs? Cindy Crawford? The
Motley People? Toni Morrissette? Hell no! We don't and WE DON't
CARE DO WE? AND CAN GLENN PUT ANY MORE MAKEUP ON?
6. Bill Peet used his own imagination and created and persevered
against Walt's little tantrums (at least that's what it implied
in the book). I admire him for that. And if it weren't for him
all the characters that we love wouldn't be recreated like they
are at Disneyland and DisneyWorld and Orlando would still be
the big field it used to be and all the Cuban immigrants would
probably would have gone somewhere else in South America instead
of coming to Florida and in Miami you could go somewhere where
people still spoke ENGLISH!!!! AND MAYBE CASTRO WOULD HAVE
BEEN DEFEATED AND WE WOULDN'T HAVE HAD THE BAY OF PIGS AND
IT WOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN CASTRO FOREVER TO PUT ON A DECENT SUIT
AND MEET THE DAMN POPE FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!!!
Thank you for posting something about Bill Peet because I love the
guy.
