Anyone know why the different signatures?

Something along the lines of
chris browne = Chris Browne gag, pencils and inks
or maybe pencils and inks?
CHRIS BROWNE = Chris Browne gag and pencils
or maybe just pencils?
BROWNE = Chris Browne pencils only
or maybe leaving the whole strip to the KFS bullpen?

My understanding is that years (decades) ago
Chris and KFS had some differing opinions and
Chris stopped writing gags and did pencils only.
That 'chris browne' signature strikes me as
fairly recent - and if I remember right it's
the way he would sign his old Playboy
and NatLamp comics.

Anyone have inside information?
Willing to join in my speculation?
