I read this story when i was like eleven or twlve; it's stuck with
me ever since but i cn't remember who wrote it or the title....

a family moves to a neighborhood who are all nice, but odd..eventually
they get invited on a picnic or something and it starts to rain..and
they all melt away! their horrified neighbors realiuze they were made
of sugar!

like i said, that image has stuck with me ever since i read it; i
remember being upset for several days after i read it.

can anyone help me find it? thanks!

This is probably "Rain, Rain, Go Away!", one of Isaac Asimov's more
eccentric short stories from the 1950s. It would probably have originally
been written for a Sci-fi magazine.

The story is included in the Asimov short story collection 'Buy Jupiter' and
I think I've also seen it in some of the Sci-fi story collections published
by Gollancz.

That was it, yep! Thank you. It's funny how such a silly premise for
a story could've had such a strong effect on a person, but that last
paragraph surely did freak the younger me out.

It's hardly the kind of story one usually associates with Dr. A, is
it? There's no way I'd have thought of his name in connection with the
image of Japanese sugar people melting.

Thanks again!

It seems that due to a recent outbreak of the Oopses at the home of
Sparrow 13, the link I posted earlier doesn't work. Pardon my flub.

The link below, now, *that* one works. I took it for a test-drive and
it got me there.

Therefor I say unto you, that if you want to read "Rain Rain Go Away"

And when was that, pray? We are not mind readers; none of us have any
EARTHLY way of knowing how old you are. So, in what YEAR were you "like
eleven or twelve"???

I have repeatedly had that story come to mind over the years. It stays
with me.
