Looking for a book read to me in the third grade (about 30 years ago)
about a town full of animals. One of the characters I really liked and
the only name I remember is Lazy Liza Lizard. It is not "Wind in the
Willows". Can't find it through library or book stores. Would appreciate
any information you have on it>

Sure, I remember Lazy Liza Lizard and her friend Mr. Snake as well. I
can't tell you the author's name, but I'm quite positive that the title
was "Lazy Liza Lizard." I read it to my kids some years ago--it would
have been 50's or 60's.

Dear Jean,
The book, L.L.L. was written in 1938 by Marie Curtis Raines, illustrated
by Vera Neville, who also did some of the Betcy-Tacey stories. Several
people have been looking for this book for the past ten years; it crops
up on rare book dealers want lists constantly, with the result that most
dealers assume it is very rare and valuable. I guess that means more
than $100. But, it does seem pretty rare, we haven't come across a copy
in that time.

My sister bought the book for me in the '50s. I had it until I got married. My mother sent it to another sister, altho my name was inscribed in the front. I would give anything to have it, but booksellers are asking hundreds of dollars.
