Hi --

I'm so happy to have found this group! I spent over an hour at the
library yesterday with the librarian and my 12yo daughter, trying to
find a book that she previously read and wants to read again. We
could not come up with it.

Although I read it with her, both of us only remember hazy details.
It's about a girl who receives a rose present every year on her
birthday from the fairies. There's something about a bad fairy leader
and an evil black rose on a later birthday. That's the most we could
come up with. Does anyone know what this book is? She would be
thrilled to find it again.

Also, I had hoped to read my younger children a book I read as a child
that I was enchanted with. However, the details on this one are even
hazier! :o$ Something about a family of dolls who are washed up on
an island and who improvise by doing things like making their dishes
out of acorn caps, etc. I know its not much to go on, but I thought I
might be worth a chance to at least just ask.

Thank you very much in advance for any help!!

"The Fairy Rebel", by Lynn Reid Banks(?), sounds close enough.

Probably "Floating Island" by Anne Parrish.

Thank you so much! I looked up the synopsis at Amazon, and that's the
book. My daughter was very disappointed when we could not find it at
the library. I told I would find it for her because I knew a place
where SOMEONE would know the title. How nice to be answered so
quickly!

I ordered it for my daughter as a surprise and it will be here in a
couple of days. She is going to be so pleased. We (she and I) also
wanted to read it to her younger sister.

Thank you again.

I'm sure it is. I "found" this book again last year
thanks to this group, ordered a copy, and discovered
it to be every bit as charming as when I was seven
years old. Unfortunately, it came a little late to
read to my children -- but maybe someday there'll be
grandkids to share it with.

This one could be Floating Island by Anne Parrish, and old book which has
been reprinted. You might want to double check the maid/father
relationship before you share it with your children, but it is beautifully
written and illustrated. Suzanne Price
