She lives in Suffield, Connecticut.

In case anyone needs reminding, she's famous for her drawings of cute kids with
inkspot eyes and no mouths or instantly visible noses.

I knew her mainly for her illustrations in the 1959 "The Golden Treasury of Poetry," ed. Louis Untermeyer. In that one, there are also pictures of normal-looking kids. (Not to be confused with the 1987 book "The Joan Walsh Anglund Book of Poetry.") It also has plenty of normal-looking adults - and some not so normal looking, especially if you count the pencil-thin woman in "Moy Castle"!

Here are some of them (mixed in with pictures not in the book):

The book was reissued in 1998 with some poems removed; look here to see which ones.

I can't believe she only has ONE entry in the "Something About the Author" encyclopedia series - and that was in the early 1970s! However, she does have an 11-page entry in volume 94 of the "Children's Literature Review" encyclopedias - from 2004, I think.

One of her more popular 1950s books is "The Brave Cowboy." (In 2000, it was reissued, with a change - the "Indians" were changed to bank robbers.)

"Her characters grace figurines, hand-made plaques, notecards, cross stitch patterns and ornaments."

"Joan Walsh Anglund was born January 3, 1926, in Hinsdale, IL. She studied at the Chicago Art Institute in 1944 and the American Academy of Art in 1945. This followed with an apprenticeship with a commercial artist in Chicago, Adele Roth. Anglund spent the majority of her life free-lancing drawing and full-time writing and illustrating, composing over twenty titles." ("Something About the Author" encyclopedia series)

From Wikipedia:

"In 2015 a United States Postal Service stamp was issued commemorating the American author and poet Maya Angelou with the Joan Walsh Anglund quote 'A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song' though the stamp apparently attributes the quote to Angelou. The quote is from Anglund's book of poems A Cup of Sun (1967). President Obama also wrongly attributed the sentence to Angelou during the presentation of the 2013 National Medal of Arts and National Humanities Medal."

I was amazed to see she'd illustrated one book in the 1940s - by Robbie Trent, known mainly for Bible story retellings, but also for her novel "Susan"!
