Does anybody know of a similar sigfile code for describing their
piercings and if not then who would like to help set one up with me just
for fun?
Then we could all describe ourselves in a one liner at the bottom of
each post. I lurk quite a lot and have several mental pictures of the
frequent posters but can never remember where their steel is.
I could even put up a page for reference on my webpage.
A bit too geeky? Let me know

What about a code for other ink/scars/brands,etc??? Good idea!

i think this is a cool idea.
the golden (*) however would be a bit dubious cos 10 ear piercings would
rate higher than a single 2" lobe, when the larger gauge is a lot harder to
do. otherwise great!

can't think of a code for my surgeries (foreskin frenulum cut and partial
meatomy)
I tried to get this idea rolling at RABcon, but no one else did it (surprise,
surprise) - i put a t=3, p=11 on my nametag for 3 tattos and 11 piercings. The
problem is with all those people with bodysuits who'd feel inferior with
"tattoos=1" on their tag :).

What if you create a value for the percentage of the body that is covered
by ink instead of the number of tats? That way a full body suit doesn't
get the same count as a very tiny tatt?

Hey Beaker, are you in the Madison area? Or did you get pierced
by Derek-the-ultra-cool in Ohio this past week?

Indeed. A few months ago I had 13 tattoos. Now I'm down to four, and
rapidly headed for three. :-)
Perhaps we could have the number of square inches of ink. I guess I'd
roll in at maybe T475. (Geez, when I added up all the ink, all the money
I've paid for it just doesn't seem as much. :-))
But then again, that gives us big ol' boys like me and Gol a decided
advantage. We've got more skin.

Wur. I guess 'f we're talking bodysuitage, face & hands 're not
*usually* included. This clears the ground a little for estimation.
Wallace's Rule of Nine yields a 'percentage covered' figure. It's
used to estimate burn damage areas. Each arm = 9%, each leg 18%,
front torso 18%, rear torso 18%, head 9%, perineum 1% = 100%.
Each arm includes the hand & each foot the leg. Assume, then that
full arm coverage = 5.8% (to mid-foream), each leg 14.4%, the whole
trunk 36% & perineum, 1% if a tattooist can be found to do it :)
Total: 77.4%.
An average man in UK has about 18 sqare feet of surface area, so 77.4%
of 18 = 13.9 sq. ft. coverage approx. (Access to one of those models
'weighted' in favour of nervous distribution would be groovy, but I
ain't got one & besides, it gets bloody complicated :)
Trim off a bit 'cos of trunk not tattooed up to neckline (I'm thinking
Japanese here - you can tell) say 13.5% under clothing, ie. out of the
sun. That leaves a ratio of 13.5 : 4.5 or 3 : 1. Therefore, a full
bodysuit = three quarters covered.
Interesting, isn't it? Includes all the tricky bits, you notice;
armpits, entire perineum...I estimate your common or garden full
bodysuit to cover not more than 70%. And not necessarily *solid*
coverage, either. My ballpark figure with bare bits stripped out
suggests 60 - 65% *maximum*.
Now go on & estimate your own percentage coverage & post it to the
group!
Clinginging desperately to the topic :) does anyone know wot area of
undamaged skin we need to *survive*? And to wot degree tattooed skin
*is* invalidated as a functioning organ, if at all? I know it has
quite a bit more collagen....Why the ink particles aren't carried away
in tissue fluid, tho' is beyond me.
I'm inclined to think if it can grow, react, flush & sweat there can't
be a lot wrong.
Dick.
(I may be skint, but I've done me f**kin' sums).

:Clinginging desperately to the topic :) does anyone know wot area of
:undamaged skin we need to *survive*?
If you burn more than 80 percent of your skin, the prognosis is *very*
bad (you usually don't survive), with more than 60 % it's still bad.
Tattoing doesn't have that effect.

The cells who would take care of "debris" like that (macrophages) by
simply eating the particles and carrying them away into the
bloodstream can't "swallow" the paint particles! And "ordinary" tissue
fluids can't just flush stuff away, there are cell membranes to be
crossed etc. which is what the macrophages are for.

You're right :-)

Fun fact: Pus is created by macrophages eating until they burst.

Another fun fact::
The color of the pus depends on the kind of bacteria being eaten:
Yellow for Staphylococcus, green for Actinomyces, blue-green for
Pasteurella... :-)
After doing some extensive (layman) research into tattoo removal, laser
surgery breaks up the ink particles into particles that the macrophages
can handle. The problem isn't the ink, it's the size

Exactly!!!
I wouldn't call it a problem though. If it was different, we'd have
the much-discussed temporary tattoo ;-).
From a macrophage's viewpoint though.... "dang, my mouth is too
small!"

Sure it's relevant. You just explained the concept of laser tattoo
removal in one sentence! So much for efficacy :-D
