I've been thinking about getting my nips pierced for a while now, and I
want to get a little closer to doing it. I've read the piercing FAQ and
lurked here on r.a.b for a while, so I've got some idea of what's
involved. However, I have a problem: when weightlifting, some exercises
have my chest rubbing/pressing up against the weight benches (plus there's
a lot sweat involved). I'm thinking that I might be headed for possible
infections and lengthening the time it takes to heal (and maybe lots of
pain from rubbing against the benches). Am I asking for trouble by doing
this, at least while lifting? Any information anyone can supply would be
really appreciated.
I've also read the piercers'-locations FAQ, and Pittsburgh is decently
well represented (more-so than I would have thought). However, I'd like
to know if anyone has any recommendations in addition to what's in the
FAQ.

Well, I haven't had any problem with ym nip since I started lifting again.
Granted, I've come down with a minor infection in it, but that's because it
got played with a bit roughly. In any event, the infection is healing quickly
and the pierce overall hasn't affected my lifting. My fairly new PA hasn't
either, which is a good thing.

well, i quit bench-pressing after getting my nipples pierced, but that was
the only alteration i've made to my workout, with no ill-effects. as long
as you clean the piercings in the shower after working out, there should
be no problem.

Actually, I haven't had a problem with benching at all. But then, I can hardly
say that I bench a lot of weight either, so I guess my mileage varied.
when i first read about the person who had the nipple ring who
had stopped doing bench presses, i had assumed it was to avoid
any undue stretching on the nipple that the exercise might cause.
please correct me if i am wrong!!

The occasional exercises i've experienced problems with in this regard,
such as the preacher curl and the t-bar, have alternative ways of
working the bicep and back muscle groups with free weights that don't
involve pressing your chest against a pad if you think that will be a
problem. Actually, i have seldom found the nipple pierces to get in my
way. My hafadas, however, are a different story, and they occasionally
make working my low back muscles or riding my exercise bike a real pain
(literally). i'm coming up on my one year anniversary with those two and
the fuckers *still* aren't healed yet...*sigh*

not that this has anything to do with bodyart, but there is nothing
wrong with touching your chest during bench press as long as you don't
bounce the bar, as nate mentioned. in fact, stopping the movement isn't
really all that bad, because it eliminates momentum. in some competitions,
it is required to stop the bar at the chest for one second to prevent use
of momentum in the exercise.

while not being the original poster, i stopped bench pressing because i
did not want the bar to irritate my nipples, as i felt that the amount
of weight i used would affect that. i feel that pec dec and the
occasional dumbbell workout does the job adequately.

Well, I'm the guy who started this thread, and I've been following it.
I've yet to get pierced, what with payday being half a month away, but
I'll let y'all know what's happened with it after the fact.
The weather isn't doing anything to help, either. -21 sometime last night,
with windchill extending down into the negative sixtysomethings. Coldest
_ever_ in the city's history. Brrr.

I suggest you use your hands for weightlifting. Lifting from nips
isn't recommended.

There is an article in the 1/18/94 Wall Street Journal interviewing
another talkshow person, Greg Kennear.
What still shocks Mr. Kinnear? "Joan Rivers had circus
sideshow performers on a couple of weeks ago and featured
a gentleman by the name of Mr. Lifto, who had over 200
tattoos on his body." Mr. Lifto hoisted cinder blocks
with chains looped through his nipples.
Ouch.

Could be very interesting to watch you fish. :):):)
Becky (who now has this picture in her head) hehehe
Hehhe.
I'm sorry to be coming in late to this thread, but right after I had my
nipple done (my one and only pierce), I'm in the gym working out at my
normal herculean levels (;) ). I'm working chest and back, so I'm on
my 3rd set of bench press. Up to this time, the bar has never touched
my chest. 1 2 3 4 5.. 6... 7.... 8 (touch) Wooooooow! Talk abaout a
blast of energy! I have _never_ got the bar up that fast. :)
I started doing dumbell press after that. :)
Niplle stillll hasn't healed yet, and it's been about 4.5 months. Still
express a bit of pus out of it every morning. Can stand up to fairly
heavy play, but gets a bit sore... (not surprising.)
