Ok, here's my situation. I got a labret piercing done about two and a half
weeks ago. After about a few days I noticed that the back of the labret
stud was starting to grow over a bit, and by the end of the week it was
nearly completely buried. I didn't really want this to happen because as
it was partially healing over, if I was to accidentally push the stud in a
bit, it would sort of pop out from behind where the inside of my lip was
growing over it and it would hurt. I haven't been able to find much info
on nesting, but I did read that the back can get completely buried, but the
skin will eventually recede away from the piercing leaving an indentation.
I was fine with this, but figured with it grown over I'd eventually end up
accidentally pushing on it and tearing the skin, causing myself a world of
pain.
So, I took the labret stud out, and put a 14ga circular barbell in its
place. What I'm noticing now, is that this, of course is also trying to
nest. The way the skin is growing over it, it almost looks like it has
split the inside of my lip, althoug it's not causing me any pain. I don't
mind having the circular barbell nest so much as the labret stud because I
don't run the risk of tearing the inside of my lip with it. I just want to
make sure that the skin will eventually recede off of it and if I should be
at all concerned about the split appearance of the inside of my lip. Is
there anything that I can/should be doing about this, or should it be find
if I just leave it alone?
Thanks

total crap.

many mouths are not built for labret studs. if the circ is
comfortable, keep it. letting a piece of jewelry become embedded in your
lip is NOT what you want to do. ever.

take it out. labrets are uncomfortable when kissing anyhow.
or when cocksucking, whichever applies best to you.

Obviously the barbell can't get completely embedded like the labret stud
would, but it appears to be growing over somewhat. Is this a major
concern?

Kissing applies far better than cocksucking would. Also, I'd rather not
take it out unless I absolutely have to, which doesn't seem to be the case
(at least not yet) as I'm not experiencing any pain, and everything seems
to be healing fine.
Thanks for the info

it's only a major concern if it's doing damage. i can't see your
lip. post photos to the web & drop an url here if you want a better
diagnosis. it's a young piercing, yes? they're weird when they're new.
ok, they're weird when they're old, too, but at least they
eventually stop growing extra tissue all over the place.

There's also a possibility that the labret stud was too short for the
initial piercing, and didn't allow any room for the swelling/healing
process.
