i would like to get my lip pierced on the (left) side. however, i've
seen lots of pictures which feature side lip piercings that look
*really* crooked to me:

http://bme.freeq.com/pierce/05-lips/A10515/high/bme2.jpg

i will be *very* disappointed if my piercing turns out crooked like
this. does anyone know what causes this crookedness? is it just
caused by having a ring with a large diameter that has nowhere to go
but to the side, or is it perhaps a result of piercing
technique/placement? how i can tell if it will happen to me? i'd
really rather just get it in the center if it's going to be so
devilishly crooked. (i'm not saying it needs to be *perfectly*
vertical or anything... but seriously, what's behind all this
super-slanted stuff?)
here are some piercings:

http://bme.freeq.com/pierce/05-lips/A10427/high/mypicings2.jpg
which are about as "straight" as i want mine to be. will my piercer
be able to ensure that mine will end up relatively straight if i voice
my concerns to him/her? (i will definitely *not* be enchanted with a
slanted lip ring...)
thank you very much for any ideas.

Turn your brain back on, then look at the pictures.

Bingo, einstein.

It *will* happen to you, and all off-center lip piercings are stupid,
whether they look crooked or not. I think you have nothing to worry
about.

If its a ring and its of a size different than the one which would
look straight, it will look crooked even if its on your ass.

well kerry if you do deside on a certain side of the lip it almost surely
will come out 'crooked looking' but the piercing will be strait, it is just
the hoop that rests to one side when the mouth is closed i think
take a look at mine here, its a centered vert lip

im thinking maybe if getting one on the left is a big issue for you then id
go with the smallest hoop possible for the lack of crookedness
cheers!

the *piercings* aren't crooked. look again. if you have a ring that does not
fit your lip snuggly, it will flop to either side when your mouth is closed.

*ding*! see above.

doubtful. with one hole in your lip, it's hard to be crooked, because there
isn't another hole to be judged against.

single off-centered lip piercings often look a bit wonky and lopsided (and
also why i decided to get 2 more in addition ;) ), but if you have the
correct sized jewelry, you probably won't have anything to worry about. keep
in mind though, that you would probably have to have a ring with a slightly
larger diameter for the healing pierce to accomodate for any swelling that
may occur. after it's healed you can swap it out for a smaller size.
