I've finally deicede to delurk. I'm looking for a picture of the Egyptian
god Horus, for my first tattoo. If anyone has a clue as to where I can
find a good picture of him please email the source of a gif or jpeg of
the pic. Is it always as hard to figure out WHERE you want your first
tattoo as it is to figure out what you want?

Thanks,

Horus.

Actually, you can find a lot of good stuff in children's books--lots of
big pictures, both full color and coloring-book images, which you or
somebody else can modify. Try looking in one of the more educational toy
stores; they usually have stuff about aincent Egypt.

The decision of where to put my first tattoo was really easy, for some
reason; since then, I've come up with a scheme for my whole body that
will probably take years, and that first tattoo just doesn't fit in
anymore...oh well, I'll figure out something...<grin>

Have you thought about trying a library? Even in these days
of tecknologeeee, you'll still find a far greater wealth of
knowledge between the pages of a book.

Are you talking about the eye of Horus, or the god himself? I've seen
the eye of Horus a lot, it's a well known hyroglyphic (sp?!?), but I have
no clue what Horus himself looks like. But if you want a good picture of
the eye of Horus, go get a book of hyroglyphics at your friendly local
library.
And think hard, remember it's permanent!

I may have some Egyptian art which is intricate and which is more of a
tone seen in the early part of this century..

email me what you'd like to see...I'll scan some for you.

Horus, is one of the bird-headed gods. I beleive
a stylized hawk or falcon would apply (though it has
always looked like a quail to me). This shouldn't be
too hard to find, as he was a principal god in the
pantheon of Egyptian polytheism. I have seen several
good Horus examples carved in bas-relief.

There is a good Egyptian mythology FAQ
available on the net. Horus was the son of
Isis and Osiris, known as Her-nedj-tef-ef;
"Horus, Avenger of his Father." He is particularly
sacred for being the prototype of the pharoahs.
Horus cast out Set after Set murdered Osiris.
Horus-the elder is the protector of Upper Egypt,
and was sometimes seen as the twin of Set before
he cast Set out. Like most Egyptian gods & goddesses,
Horus is the combination of at least two indigenous
traditions.

Have fun,

Gabe
