MAJOR MAJOR SPOILERS.

HUGE WHOPPING SPOILERS ON THE LAST FEW EPISODES.
I've yet to figure out how to use the ctrl -L so I'm putting a lot of empty

---------------------------spoiler article starts-------------------------
Okay.... That should be enough to keep any flame happy netters offa
my hide. Anyone who gets this far WANTS to know how it ends.
Anyone wanting to quote this article please include spoiler warnings.
Last weekend the Boston Japanese Animation Society showed the last
three episodes of Nadia (Thanx Jim!:), Eps. 37,38,39.
Well...How did the series end? VERY SPECTACULARLY!, thats how.
I have virtually no grasp of Japanese and since I saw all 3 episodes together
I'm not too sure which sequences go into which episode so bear with me.
Episode 37 starts out with gargoyle getting his hands on both Nadia
and the Blue Water. Apparently he needs it to power a gigantic flying-
saucer he has. Gargoyle uses Neos (Is he Nadia's brother?) to form some
sort of infinity symbol power source out of the Blue Water and another larger
crystal. Nemo and the crew of the Nautilus prepares for WAR. The Nautilus
now seems to be capable of space flight!!! (When did this happen?) Jean gets
a long lecture on the workings of the newly overhauled Nautilus (one
part of the interior of the ship in which Electra talks to Jean looks a
lot like the heart of LAPUTA!). Gargoyle takes Nadia on a short tour of his
ship which gives Nadia the creeps. With his Flying Saucer now operational
(it reminds me of 'V'), Gargoyle's ship appears over Paris and a gigantic
hologram of Neos appears. The standard "Mighty Evil Master"tm. world threat
is issued, this threat is also simultaneusly given throughout the world.
(the giant hologram appears in New York, Japan, China, London etc..)
To back up his threat, the saucer shoots a power beam from it's TOP and
using some SDI type reflecting satellite destroys some nearby countryside.
Marie and non-combatants are left behind on an island by the Nautilus.
I think the episode ends with the now aerial Nautilus confronting Gargoyle's
flying saucer. Not a bad cliffhanger!!!! (Nautilus HASSHHINNNN!!!!)
Episode 38 is a ONE HUMOUNGOUS slugfest...Nuff said.I don't remember
all the details of it BUT the animation was great. The Saucer and Nautilus
goes MANO ET MANO over Paris. Explosions galore, the Nautilus destroys the
reflecting SDI satellite so Saucer can't use it's main weapon. The saucer is
protected by an incredibly tough force shield so the Nautilus gets the
worst of it. The Eifel tower will never be the same again..... Jean is aghast
at this. Nemo orders the Nautilus into ramming speed and manages to punch
a small hole through the shield and the saucers' side.
Grandis and her boys follows through by driving into the hole made by the
Nautilus' ramming attack. The Gratan drives around inside the saucer!
What sort of holes do you make to go through walls?
Why, Gratan shaped holes!! Apparently the Gratan (Grandis' tank) has
gone through the same type of ultra-tech overhaul. It now has lasers etc.
Grandis and the boys finds the power-source for the shields (or guns?)
jams it with the Gratan and blows it up. Shields are down! One interesting
thing I have noticed, throughout all this; Gargoyle never uncrosses his legs!
The saucer must have no heads! (toilets). Saucer heads into space, Nautilus
follows, makes a bigger hole in it and flies into the saucer.
Episode 39, the conclusion. this episode is in serious need of a script.
Very confusing. The Nautilus is in the saucer, Electra, Nemo and Jean goes
into the saucer (to look for Nadia?). They are confronted by Gargoyle in a huge
chamber. Coincedentally the three heroes were standing on columns! Three
columns rises up 30-40 feet in the air. Gargoyle is on another column away
from the heroes. Grandis, Hanson and Sanson is captured!
He is protected by a force field which lights him up from
below and which also gives him the villainous look. Gargoyle goes on a very
long talk with Nemo. Gargoyle shoots Nemo several times. Electra returns fire,
and even though Gargoyle is protected by a force field manages to break part
of his mask. Gargoyle retaliates by electrifying Electra (Hmmm rhymes...).
Gargoyle dares Jean to shoot him but Jean has spent too much time with Nadia
and he cannot (Nadia being non-violent and pacifistic). Gargoyle snaps his
fingers and a brain-washed Nadia and (her brother?) Neos appears. He orders
Nadia and Neos to kill Nemo. Nadia and Neos being Zombies shoots Nemo several
times, Nemo now resembles a sieve (albeit a talking sieve). Gargoyle has a
good laugh until the Nautilus starts firing within the saucer. A shot goes
through the chamber and damages Neos. Neos comes to his senses and realises
he must save Nadia. (Nadia is still staring in space). It's shown that Neos
is 90%+ cyborg. Neos rises slowly from his throne pullin a sort of umbilical
cord behind him. Just as he is about to destroy the mind control device on
Nadia; Gargoyle PULLS THE PLUG ON HIM! (in EVERY sense of the word, literally)
(this brought on a great amount of laughter in the BJS viewing room)
Neos nonetheless manages to destroy the mind control device and dies horribly.
Nadia awakes and gargoyle starts talking to her. I think he is trying to
provoke Nadia into using her powers (which is I take it, is considerable like
Neos'). To provoke her into using her powers he KILLS JEAN in front of her!!
(50 ft. drop on the neck) Nadia is grief stricken and horrified. Gargoyles
talks some more (the %^$%#$ talks a lot). The Nautilus appears and rudely
interrupts Gargoyle's talk by shooting him with one of its main guns.
Nadia rushes to Jean but he has already joined the choir invisible.
Nemo (someone get him a doctor already!) tells Nadia she can save him.
Nadia then summons the two power crystals that powers the saucer (the Blue
Water and another larger one), recreates the infinity symbol and prays
very hard.... She sees a vision of her mother(?) and suceeds!!
Jean's heart starts beating! While this is happening Gargoyle stumbles out
badly injured and tries to stop Nadia. (both he and Nemo are INCREDIBLY
hard to kill!!) Nemo says something to him but he continues on. He touches
the aura surrounding Nadia and crumbles to dust. (We get a glimpse of his face,
supposedly hints about him were given). Nautilus blasts its' way out of the
saucer. Nemo is dying (not surprising) and talks to the crew. We are given
the impression that Electra is pregnant with Nemo's child. (she touches her
belly). Nemo dies, Jean wakes up, Nadia kisses Jean, Nautilus re-enters
earth. Marie sees a shooting star on the island.........
FIN.
EPILOGUE.
==========
12 years after.
If you guys out there are going to translate anything, TRANSLATE THIS!!!
It is 12 years after the events that transpired in series. Marie (who is
now 18 or 17) is narrating. (Marie is good looking)
i) On returning to earth, the Nautilus badly damaged sinks.
ii) The crew is rescued by the USS Abraham. (picture of rescue)
iii)Grandis becomes a glamorous lady surrounded by suitors.
(funny sequence of how Grandis plays golf)
iv) Hanson (Grandis' fat sidekick) becomes a millionaire from the Gratan
design. (a wealthy looking Hanson in his skyscraper office)
v) I think the the captain of the Abraham retires to a mansion.
vi) Jean marries Nadia! (sequence of life in that household! King is a lion
now with lion cubs of his own, Nadia cooks only vegetarian dishes and
now Jean builds Rocket-ships not planes!)
vii)"What about me?", Marie says... Well Sanson waits 12 years and
MARRIES Marie!!!!!!!! (Wedding photo)
The epilog ends with an obviously pregnant Marie and Sanson walking up
a hill (laughing etc..) and Marie releasing a model airplane. The model
flies up and becomes the plane in the closing sequence......beautiful cut.
A really truly fitting ending to a magnificent series.
The ending was in my opinion extremely well animated. As I have see only
the first 8 episodes, a few after that and the ending, I am at a loss how
the Nautilus became space-worthy. I also heard the rumour on the net that
Nadia drops Jean for an African boy. No, I think the ending with Jean
marrying her fits the story better. The series with so few Japanese references
really ought to be brought over to the USA. BUT the ending was a bit bloody...

the blue water will then become lead and will have no more power to use. And
NEmo asks Nadia if she wanted that way.
The actual name for Neo is "benashisu" or in English "Venusis." He is called
Neo because of gargoyle. Gargoyle actually called him Neo for the latter's sake
because Gargoyle wanted to rule behind the scene, recreating a new Atlantis,
and since the people living in Atlantis wouldn't follow someone like him, he
needed a guinea pig for his power hunger. And the perfect guinea pig happened
to be Venusis who was too young to understand what was happening and Gargoyle
took advantage of this. He used science on Venusis to create the cyborg
body in the 39th episode so that Venusis can be under his control. And now
that he's gotten someone that everyone will follow he can start on his plan
to create a new Atlantis, a Neo Atlantis. Now Neo Atlantis does mean New
Atlantis but the "Neo" is the additional name added on to Atlantis because
it is the name of the current ruler who happens to be Neo aka Venusis.

=>Well, only true Atlanteans can be within the power of the blue water and
since Gargoyle is not a true Atlantean he turns into salt. As I said before,
I don't think it's sacrificing a life, but losing the power of the blue
water. Remember that Nadia sees her mother after they talked about trying to
get Jean's life back. Well, Nadia was begging the voice to resurrect Jean, even
though the voice keeps telling her that he's dead and that there's all this
complications that goes with resurrecting. But the mother does agree, saying
to Nadia that she will let Jean live that she will combine all the spirits
of the dead Atlanteans to resurrect Jean, and this is where you see the
glowing ball of light go to Jean's body (that is the combination of the
spirits). Remember that the possesor of the blue water, only a true Atlantean,
can hear the voices of the dead. Well, the spirits are within the power of the
blue water itself, that's why in the beginning episodes, it warned her of
upcoming threats to her life. It's a connection mostly but the spirits are
in the blue water. And that's why the blue water glows when they are speaking
to her and Nemo because that's the only way they can communicate effectively.
But Nadia's mother is the head of the spirits of the Atlanteans and she is the
one who has protected her child from the start (as you recall the suicide
attempt that Nadia made but the blue water saved her, that's her mother).

I guess you missed a lot in the middle. The old Nautilus was destroyed around
episode 23 or so, after Gargoyle and his flying tripod ship pulled it up out
of the sea with a magnetic beam and dropped loads o' bombs on it. Nemo
ejected Nadia, Jean, Marie, and King out in his cabin which doubles as an
escape pod of sorts. After this they stuck on an island and act stupid for
about 10 episodes until things start moving again when we learn the island is
one of the ancient Atlantis spacecraft that brought them to Earth. Inside
there is a a computer that tells Nadia lots of important historical stuff that
needs to get translated, and we also see where Nemo got the Nautilus - there's
about a dozen of them hanging from the roof! My guess is that his Nautilus
was just a modified old Atlantean transport ship or light destroyer. Somehow
(it isn't explained pictorially - perhaps in the dialog I don't understand) he
gets ahold of the new N-Nautilus, which is probably an old Atlantean heavy
battleship or cruiser class ship.

Actually, a lot of the plot seemed more obvious from the action than a lot of
other episodes, but there is indeed some dialog which is important from a
historical point of view.

The other crystal is Nemo's Blue Water, which we've known about since about
episode 4 of the series when we see it in his storage box. We haven't known
all its powers until now, though :-) ...
Actually, she doesn't recreate the infinity symbol (which I believe is
actually also a Moebius strip) which seems to be the "power-flying-saucer"
configuration, but rather she makes a sphere, which is the "save-a-life"
configuration. The interpretation that was described to me and seems to
empirically fit the data is that this setup requires a sacrifice of one life
to bring another back. That is likely what Nemo is describing when he looks
so serious and Nadia nods her head in agreement, apparently willing to give up

No, this new Nautilus is totally different ship from Nautilus just like
Enterprises of ST and ST:TNG. Those 2 ships was Atlantian spaceships, and
old Nautilus was basically inner solarsystem spaceship(rebuild as submarine by Nemo),
and N-Nautilus was inter garactic spaceship.
>part of the interior of the ship in which Electra talks to Jean looks a

Gargoyle talked to Nadia about history of Atlantian and Homo Sapience.
Atlantian was E.T. from M78. They came the earth after the death of dinosaurs.
Their spaceships were broken down and they decide to live on the planet.
Then they made animal which has interigence and similar shape with them.
It is homo sapience.(Gargoyle showed Nadia old experiment samples in sylindars
and the giant called Adam.)
But, after the years, they fight each other and used hyper weapons on the planet.
Atlantice was sank and most of them, humans, and animals died.
Survivers rode their huge 3 spaceships with humans and animals to avoid destruction.
2 of those ships are Red-Noah and Blue-Noah. Those were REAL ark of Noah.
Red Noah became island on the sea(and got by Gargoyle as weapon(Flying Saucer)).
Blue Noah landed Africa and became the basis of the kingdom of ancestors of Nadia,
Nemo, Gargoyle, and Neo Atrantians and crew of Natilus.
Nemo was a king of the kingdom 16(17?) years ago. But, Gargoyle wanted to conquer
the earth by Atlantian again, and carried out a coup d'etat.
>.....Nemo (someone get him a doctor already!) tells Nadia she can save him.
>Nadia then summons the two power crystals that powers the saucer (the Blue

Blue water is materiarizing of Atlantians' souls(or Force of S.W.).
There are memories of died Atlantians.
>Jean's heart starts beating! While this is happening Gargoyle stumbles out
>badly injured and tries to stop Nadia. (both he and Nemo are INCREDIBLY

The force field of Blue Water allow to enter only true Atlantian like Nemo, Neos,
and Nadia. Gargoyle was only Human (he believed he was a true Atlantian, too.),
because the bloodline of Atlantian was reduced for long time and there were only
Nemo, Neos, and Nadia as truely Atlantian.
So, Gargoyle was refused by Force field of Blue Water and became a pillar of salt
just like the episode in old testament.
>supposedly hints about him were given). Nautilus blasts its' way out of the.....
N-Nautilus couldn't fly anymore. Crew tryed to ride one of the spaceships which
were same model with (old)Nautilus. Then, Nemo stayed on N-Nautilus and shot the
cannon to make hole on the RedNoah for his crew. So,the spaceship was out from
Red Noah, only left dying Nemo in it...

They sank this new new Nautilus, because they didn't want to keep Alien's
hyper technology until human being invent such tech by themselves.

No, that picture was shot on old Nautilus in old days.
(Crew's costume are old type. Nemo appears, etc... Check it.)

He was not the captain. He was Earl Eaton.(He appeared early episodes as
crew of the Abraham, and re-appeared about episode 27 or so.
In episode 37, he was asked to take care Marie by Sanson.

To all of you who have complained that the series was too slow in
unfolding the plot, let me point out that when you do a story, you only have
a limited amount of time to do two essential tasks; these are the plot and
the character development. It is not easy to do the two at the same time,
and you only have a finite amount to time to work them out separately. Thus
any story must compromise between the two.
In a series like Star Trek, each episode is 40-50 minutes long (with
the commercials removed) so this isn't as much of a problem. In addition to
the story development and action sequences, the writers have plenty of time
to show the interaction between characters and their other activities. For
example, several characters have been observed playing musical instruments or
playacting Shakespeare, courtesy of the Holodeck.
However, most series are only 25-30 minutes long and are forced to
make tradeoffs and sacrifices in order to balance the two demands. Doctor
Who, as producer Terry Nation sometimes admits, tends toward the plot and
action scenes at the expense of character development. This is somewhat
understandable, as the plots and storylines are very intellectual and
complicated, but companions are often reduced to the roles of screaming and
running a lot and asking "What do we do next, Doctor?" There are a few
notable exceptions: characters like Jo Grant had a chance to grow and mature,
becoming more three-dimensional. But the majority of companions received only
scanty treatment. These are the ones whose characters are still being debated
and discussed in fan magazines and at conventions years afterward.
Patlabor, on the other hand, leans toward character development and
minimizes the mecha combat scenes, probably because the level of animation they
use is so complex and expensive. TV episodes and OAV's are often a little slow
in working out the story (the Patlabor movie, despite its superb animation, put
many people to sleep) and even the combat sequences are a little slow, compared
to Macross and Gundam. At least we know Noa Izumi, Asuma Shinohara, Kanuka
Clancy, and the other characters pretty well by now.
The Nadia series, in my opinion, does pretty well in balancing story
and character development in most of the episodes. A number of posters
complained about the long hiatus on the deserted island during the 20's. It
must be pointed out that this sequence occurred after a climatic battle between
the Nautilus and Gargoyle's forces, and there was even more Earth-shattering
events to come in the late 30's. The Lincoln Island episodes were probably
intended to give the characters, and us, a breather from the grim NeoAtlantean
conflict. This would allow us a chance to explore some other aspects of the
main characters and look at the lighter side of things before the confrontation
between Nemo and Gargoyle reached its awesome conclusion.
I'm sorry if you weren't satisfied with the final result, but I think I
speak for most of the members of CalAnimage Epsilon in saying I have no regrets
about the series. We have been following the Secret of Blue Water for the
better part of a year and although we were relieved when it ended, we were
sorry to see it go. Most of us just fell in love with the characters, and it
had become almost a normal part of our lives to see them week after week.
There is some consolation, the movie comes out this summer. I hope you will
enjoy it as much as we will.
See you again,
