"Hicup...Hicup..Hicup....WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!"
- C-ko ;)
I saw it at Blockbuster Video; it seems they carry most of USMC's dubbed
releases. I didn't rent it though.
I can't think of anyone matching C-ko's character, either.

Well, unfortunately I saw the dubbed A-ko version before I got
my hands on the subbed A-ko version. And yes, finitely the subbed is
better. Although, C-ko's voice in the dubbed version didn't shy too
much from the subbed version. Go figure...I got both.

I picked up the May issue of Viz's Animage at the local comic store
(looks like I'm going to have to subscribe...^_^) and based on the
content, am starting to proceed to the next level of animeness, finding
out about the voice-actors....
The actress who plays Linna (sorry, I don't have the mag in front of me
at the moment, I forget her name) did the voice of
C-ko?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow.
Sean.
P.S. Cool mag, (The) Trish. ^_^
Actually, now that I think of it, "Macek the
notorious" could probably find a good voice actor obnoxious
enough to to play C-ko... Even though I do have to admit that
differential serotonin inhibtors and nethack and anime may have
damaged to the point where I actually find C-ko amusing and not
irritating, at least for two hours ;-)
Actually, the dubbed A-ko was one of the two anime tapes
that I could find at the local Blockbuster. The other one was
some kind of hack+slash science fiction blow-em-up thing, but I
don't remember what it was. However, I went to the Blockbuster
just when they were packing everything up in boxes to move across
town, and I found those two tapes inside a box that they were
packing.

US Manga claims in their subtitled release of Ako that it is shown " in
the original theater aspect ratio with subtitles underneath for ease of
readability".
I compared an original Japanese pan&scan Ako with the US Manga
"Letterboxed" release, and found by comparing frames that they simply CUT
THE TOP OFF of the Japanese pan&scan release to make it look letterboxed,
which is even worse than pan&scan.
Does anyone know if a REAL Letterboxed version of Ako exists on video
or LD?

Project A-Ko is a 'soft matte', in other words it was 'matted' for
theatrical release. The VHS original cassette (japanese) was matted, but
the disc was full screen.
The USMC disc and tape are correct for the matted version.
(Examples in US cinema: Back to the Future II and III (except the special
effects shots)).
So the actual SHOOTING ratio for A-Ko was 1.33:1.
