Well, it had to happem.

Hanging out at Quest Labs yesterday, we decided to pop some anime in the tube
from Bill (THE local source of anime) and he selected the English dubs of
"DragonBall" I believe this was the compilation movies from the first and
third seasons, but I digress...

The funny thing is, I thought it was really well done. No, I'm not feeling
ill, I'm serious. I mean, I _liked_ ROBOTECH, but I didn't think it was done
all that well. For once, HG's 'add-a-little-humor-and-dumb-down-the-plot"
approach WORKED! This show was great. The voice acting was about the best
and most appropriate I've seen in a HG or Streamline production. Yes, Reba
West played _somebody_ :-) I was laughing so hard... I really want a copy of
this now. Our copy was taped off a TV station in Philadelphia PA a couple of
years ago and is VERY clear, but the guy that did it tried (and i mean TRIED)
to edit out the commercials, so we have time displays and some missing parts
here and there. I think Streamline should pick this show up. It's something
of theirs I think I'd actually buy.

SO STREAMLINE, YOU GOT OTHER HARMONY GOLD/INTERSOUND CRAP IN DISTRIBUTION,
HOW ABOUT GETTING SOMETHING THEY DID RIGHT FOR A CHANGE?

Uh... er...

Just out of curiosity, how is it possible to dumb down Dragonball?
It LOOKS stupid, acts stupid...

While I'm at it...

ANIME STREAMLINE WILL NEVER DO #1:

Patalliro!

BTW, how long did Patalliro run? That's probably the most bizarre
show I've ever watched.

Gee, I rather liked Harmony Gold's productions of
"Northern Kicks and Southern Fist", "Hero Tattoo with
Nine Dragons", "Seven Star Grand Mantis", and about a
dozen other live-action kung fu movies they've imported.
Not quite like anime though.

Isn't it a little early for April Fool's jokes?

This is far from a joke!!! I saw the first two episodes of the dubbed
versions at last year's Capricon. They were great!! Almost as funny as
Samurai Pizza Cats.....

Well, don't know about a "Harmony Gold feature I liked", but there's one
which nearly killed me by making me laugh and choke at the same time.
It was that underwater adventure thingy (with submarines that looked
like extras from Yamato), with the main whingy female (played by
you-know-who) continually calling the hero's name. The thing that
really got me that Harmony Gold (Macek's) intellect got so far as to
call this hero RICK as well... Yes, it all added up to a lot of "Ohhh,
Rick!!!"'s...
