I don't know much about the post to this group on DBZ, but they seem
kinda old. Still talking about Cell? He's long gone and as far as I know,
DBZ has an new enemy, the wizard can't remember his name who is trying to
resurrect a demon king, whatever, I don't know how to spell out the names
cos I read the chinese subtitles which is the same character japanese
uses but never can I make out the pronouciation in japanese, anyways I
would be glad to fill people in on what's happening right now in DBZ.

I think the names are Darbaru? and Buu.

From my point of view, however, "old" and "new" are relative. If
I haven't seen it or heard it, it's NEW to me, and probably to most people.
Sure, you may be able to say "hmm, looks like an old anime", but it's
still new from your point of view and you'll have the same reactions and
questions as the first viewers of the same show when it first came out.

In my case, Dragonball -- with young Gokuh -- is "new", because I
haven't even seen all of it yet (we've JUST gotten up to the first
Piccolo Daimyo sequence). I have the manga up to the beginning of the Cell
sequence, and I've seen pieces of the Cell Game up until the point where
Gohan really gets mad [when 16's head gets squashed]. Thus, the
Cell Game is "new". If you have a direct pipeline to Japan, AND you have
either the money to spend or very generous friends who send you tapes
for free, you can manage to stay "current" with what's going on. I can't
afford to, and I suspect a large number of other people can't either.

Another point to remember is that even if something is old, people
may still find it worthwhile to discuss/argue over. Lord knows that
Trek fans are still discussing the ORIGINAL episodes, which are older
than almost ALL of the anime *seen* by people here, let alone discussed.
KOR still enjoys a popular and vocal following, despite the fact that
it's been over for quite some time. Saint Seiya has a small but quite
enthusiastic following even though it, too, has been dead for years.
Other examples abound.

And, finally, comprehension of various points can come slower
for those of us who don't yet speak Japanese.

Forgive the long-winded reply, but I've been seeing a lot of
these "Jeez, you guys are talking about OLD stuff" posts, and felt
it was time for a response.

Why the heck is with dbz?? It's good but it's the most crazy, insane anime
i've ever seen. First of all,you see(boom!)the most powerful guy in the
world(Brawely) who gets wasted by one punch from Gokou. Then you see Pcell,
who's power isn't even close to brawely, kill gokou. The guys get more and
more powerful as the series lag on. Second, in the fight with metal cooler,
you see the dbz guys get wasted by a bunch of wimpy robots, suddenly pickelo
punches right through one, and then everyone startes destroying them(Which a
while back, they couldn't even put a dent in them). Then Gokou and Vegeta get
wasted by Metal Cooler, Then(uhhhh) suddenly there's an army of Metal Coolers
on top of the cliffs watching them!!!!! Does Gokou's martial art get stronger
as he fights or something???

well...

1) you are watching them in wrong order, cooler was before brawly

2) you are comparing OVA's to the TV/manga series (brawly is OVA)

3) if you didn't keep up with Gokou since he was a kid you won't
understand a thing.

OK... so Dragon Ball was supposed to finish when he defeated
Freezer... but it is all the fan's fault. Toriyama had to adlib to the story
which was supposed to end there by fan demand. But hopefully it will all end
with the appearance of Majin Buu...

I haven't seen that movie, but didn't Gokuu merge with the other Saiyajins
to kill Burori? Otherwise, he was no match. Also keep in mind that this
happens after Perfect Cell, so Gokuu was probably a lot stronger by then.

>>who's power isn't even close to brawely, kill gokou. The guys get more and

Cell didn't have the strength to kill Gokuu in combat. At best, it was a
stalemate. Cell killed Gokuu by putting all of his energy into a single
self-destructive blast.

Yup.

Listen to the dialogue. Piccolo tell Kuririn and Gohan that if they could
find a weak spot and focus their ki, they could defeat the robots.

This is explained by Cooler/Big Gheti Star in the dialogue.

>>as he fights or something???

Yes. A few things to keep in mind:

1. Saiyajins get stronger when they recover from a serious beating or near
(or actual) death experiences.
2. Saiyajins get stronger when they get pissed off.
3. Gokuu and co. are constantly training, although Gohan slacks off after Gokuu
dies.

*Hopefully*? God, why? DB is the greatest thing since baked bread. *^_^*
I hope it never ends, especially considering that Gokuu has evolved into a new
form of Super Saiyajin. I think we have quite a bit more to come...

Sort of. <SPOILER>

Piccolo, Gohan, Trunks and (finally) Vejita lend Goku the last of their
ki in order to kill Burori. I wonder how they're going to pull off
bringing him back for the next movie ... although mere death has never
stopped any of the characters before ^_^

I take all of the movies with a planetoid-sized grain of salt anyway;
everyone is always thoroughly overpowered. Consider Movie 7, the one
with Cyborgs #13-15. The amount of energy Goku sweats off when he
defeated #15 looked like MORE than enough to toast Perfect Cell ten
times over :) Clearly, the movies aren't supposed to fit into TV series
continuity.

'course, they're trying to pack 400+ episodes' worth of action and plot
down into 50 minutes' worth of movie ... I can see how the writers might
exaggerate a little ^_^

Goku conceded, saying that Cell was too powerful for him. GOHAN, on the
other hand, was pretty much on equal footing with Perfect Cell -- and
that was AFTER Goku tossed him a senzu seed to recharge :)

I wonder how much bigger the explosion would have been if Cell had been
in his Perfect stage when he self-destructed?

That was one of the coolest bits in any of the movies, IMHO. ^_^ Movie 8
had another great chunk -- where Vejita gets treated like he DESERVES by
Piccolo. :)

>> OK... so Dragon Ball was supposed to finish when he defeated

Yeah, but if that had happened, Toriyama would never have created Trunks,
the coolest character in all of anime space and time. ^_^ I think Bulma
and Vejita getting together was unexpected enough to be plausible. :)

Vejita in civvies is a WEIRD sight.

Amen to that, brutha.

Video game side note (yeah, I don't get out much): anybody notice that
three of the characters in Virtua Fighter look remarkably like Goku,
Trunks and Taopaipai?

Sure, sometimes he doubles his combat power in the same day, like vs freeza!
