I post my MI CD List a third time because I added a few things
to the Music Cocktail CD.

Thus this is now Rev. 3.
May Stephen Pearl read this post and add it to his CD list !

##### #####
##### MAISON IKKOKU CD COLLECTION #####
##### by P-chan #####
##### Rev.3 (4/1992) #####

##### TABLE OF CONTENTS #####

For each CD, I'll give you :
1> total time
2> nb of tracks
3> nb of songs
4> titles, as much as possible, translated or not (depends on my skill...) :
if in Japanese, typed both in Romaji and English;
if in English, typed "as it";
preceeded by a <S> if it's a song,
with singer, music and words composers given if possible...
5> manufacturer, serial number, on-sale year, price
6> music composer(s) for all tracks, except for songs
7> comments (contents, etc...)
8> CD jacket
9> front side of the CD box
10> back side of the CD box

Each jacket, of whatever size or type it may be, ALWAYS contains
the words of the songs (if any) in the CD.

For English translations, a friend and I used to work on the CD titles,
but I cannot guarantee them to be perfect (and I'm SURE they aren't !).
Also for Kanji readings, they SHOULD be accurate (but sometimes even
native Japanese speakers cannot read Kanjis perfectly...).
I will -probably- receive some "advanced" help from an eXcellent
Japanese and English reader to solve my problems... soon.

Comments :
This is the BGM of the movie. These musics are really
different from TV series BGM, since the composer is now
Mori Eiji, but pleasant too. You should at least have seen
the movie before, to "feel" them better.
Note that Mori Eiji is also the composer of Ranma 1/2 BGM now...
CD jacket :
A full sheet with many screenshots from the movie and
all characters plus their voices is given inside.
Front side :
The movie poster itself, Kyoko wearing her "piyo piyo" apron,
with Ikkoku-kan in background.

Kyoko wearing her (future) japanese wedding dress. Very pretty...
I said "future" because the wedding ceremony will be in 2 days !

Music Composer : Sugiyama Takuo

Comments :
This CD contains most of the early BGM themes.
This should be chronologically the FIRST one of your collection,
but amazingly it seems to have been released AFTER "Music Blend 2"...
Most of these musics are performed on the violin or harmonica,
and are melancholy, maybe because Kyoko's husband death is recent.
The 2 songs sung by Sumi-chan (Kyoko's voice) can be found ONLY
in this CD and "Koi suru kimochi". These 2 are insert songs.
This CD is also a pure copy of "Music Cocktail", except for
the 1st track (see "Music Cocktail" hereafter).
CD jacket :
Many screenshots from early episodes.
Front side :
The front side of the CD exhibits most of the characters,
drawn in the typical "beginning" style of the TV series
(when you will have a look at it, you will understand what I mean...),
all of them running after Kyoko (and the shadow of Soichiro is
here too !). The main jacket colour is pink.
Back side :
Original sketch, featuring Godai and Kyoko in front of Ikkoku-kan,
dressed up like people who go to an official ceremony...

20- <S> ending theme
Fantaji- (fantasy)
Singer : Picasso

Music Composer : Kawai Kenji

Comments :
My favourite Maison Ikkoku CD.
It has the most famous songs and BGM themes,
together with some wonderful "long BGM" tracks (1, 7, 13, 27...)
that could not be heard wholly in TV series.
Can you remember the most beautiful "kiss" love scene
between Godai and Kyoko, just when the snow starts falling,
3 episodes before the final one ?
That BGM is from track 1, "bells ring in the dawn",
a masterpiece... and the CD starts with it...
and it ends with these ringing bells too... listen carefully !
In the final episode 96, you can hear the track 13 too,
while Godai-kun is revealing all characters' stories, after
his own marriage (Kozue, Shibuki, Akemi, Shun + Asusa...).
CD jacket :
It contains a few blue&white screenshots from the first op theme,
with a full colour picture of Kyoko, sleeping on the roof
while Godai is trying to kiss her... in a very early episode
(I let you guess which one...).
Front side :
Godai and Kyoko back to back on the beach,
(Kyoko looking at you, and Godai feeling embarrassed "as usually"),
is one of the best drawn sketches among all CD jackets
(with the one from "Koi suru kimochi", which is the BEST...).
Back side :
A screenshot from the first TV episode, with Kyoko
wiping a plate and looking backwards left at Akemi,
standing on "kanrinin" 's room entrance
(Akemi is not drawn here, but fans will be able to
find this scene more easily that way... too easy now !)

Comments :
The title means "a feeling of love". All these songs are
performed by Shimamoto Sumi, the "real" voice of Kyoko.
Some of them are Sumi-chan's versions of op/end themes (1, 13),
others are insert songs, that may be heard (for a -too?- short
time) in TV series (3, 5, 9) while others are brand new
(7, 11, 15).
The op/end themes' original musics have been changed a little,
and now feelings are different, but also very good,
still in the TV style.
A little more about the 3 insert songs ::
The song #3 can be heard while Godai is cleaning the accessories
for the kindergarten party... and coughing because of dust !
This happens somewhere in the episode #77 (+/- 1) when Godai
surprisingly refuses the ULTIMATE letter from Yagami's father,
while his friend Sakamoto decides to try his luck instead...
The song #5 is very easy to find, because it is played for about
1 minute while Godai is reading the first Soichiro's postcard
from Kyoko that he discovered in his bag (episode #33).
Finally, the song #9 can be heard in the background on
some coffee-shop scenes (but I forgot exactly when...).
Between the songs, dialogues (SC) featuring Kyoko, Godai,
Akemi, Yotsuya and Ichinose have been inserted. They have been
created especially for this CD and cannot be found elsewhere !
A Japanese friend (who CAN understand Japanese...) told me
that these dialogues were VERY funny. He used to translate me
the last one (SC-7), here it is (Kyoko speaking) :
"Hic ! (hiccup)
I look like having drunk a little too much...
But I wonder whether they [G/A/Y/I] really listened to my songs.
Because Yotsuya-san didn't stop from talking.
But you... I'm sure that you listened to me, didn't you ?..."
The first one (SC-1) is made of all Ikkoku-kan weirdos
congratulating Kyoko for this new CD performance, with
a final and loud "Kanpai !!".
A really good and enjoyable CD to fill your collection up with.
CD jacket :
It is made of one sheet with all Ikkoku-kan inhabitants, with
their anime picture and their "real" voice picture too !
so that you will see : Shimamoto Sumi, Futamata Kazunari,
Mita Yuuko, Chiba Shigeru and Aoki Kasuyo...
If you make a colour copy and enlarge it, you will have
a really nice poster ! (assuming that copying is not a crime...)
Front side :
Even if you don't like this CD very much (but I canNOT imagine why),
you SHOULD buy it at least for the jacket. The sketch is the
BEST among all CDs. It features Godai in the sunny summer,
looking at the blue sky with his left hand put as an eyeshade.
The sea and some trees are in the background, and
Kyoko is looking at him, from the sky.
Is there any poster of it ?????? (cf "CD jacket" to make some !)
Back Side :
Kyoko and Soichiro (the dog !) in the center round image.
Three other "ball" images, with Kyoko (2) and Soichiro (1).

Music Composer (tracks 1 to 34) : Sugiyama Takuo, except for
tracks 1, 2, 3 and 33 for which he made the final arrangement only
(since musics themselves were taken from songs)

Music Composer (tracks 34 to 61) : Kawai Kenji, except for
the track 61 for the same reasons as above...

Comments :
The most thorough CD for BGM only.
The two "main Maison Ikkoku BGM composers" shared the job.
No songs here, but the first and last tracks are "insuto",
that is, instrumental versions of the op/end themes.
Many songs are very short (5 to 10 seconds, or even less
for bridges), but some of them, such as instrumental versions
or Ikkoku-kan's theme (track 34), are very long.
ALL of them are really beautiful, and will take you back into
the magical universe of Maison Ikkoku.
Can you remember the corresponding scenes ? I'm sure that
you can, even without translated titles...
CD jacket :
Many many colour screenshots from various TV episodes.
Front side :
Another very beautifully drawn sketch, featuring Godai and
Kyoko at ski, wearing ski trousers, and Kyoko holding ski sticks
in her hands. Their faces expressions are nearly the same as on
the "Music Blend 2" front side sketch...
Back side :
Kyoko, wearing a pink pull-over with all other Ikkoku-kan
characters printed on it.
That way, she is REALLY REALLY sexy... (personal comment :-) ).
The same picture can be found, enlarged, on the back side of the
jacket inside the CD box.
Another great poster to make with it...

*******
*** [6] MAISON IKKOKU MUSIC SHAKE ***
*******

Time: 53:19
Tracks: 56
Songs: 2
Maker: Kitty Records, Polydor K.K.
Year: 1989, 89-21-12
Number: H00K20162
Price: 3008 yens

Only songs names given here, so sorry...

2- Bigin za naito (begin the night)
Singer : Picasso
56- Alone Again
Singer : Gilbert O'Sullivan

Music Composer (tracks 1 to 37) : Sugiyama Takuo
Music Composer (tracks 38 to 55) : Kawai Kenji
... except when songs themes are played (they did only the
final arrangements, cf "Music Sour")

Comments :
Could be named "Music Sour Vol.2" (in fact, it is BGM Vol.2).
This CD is the PERFECT continuation of "Music Sour",
and the same composers did the job too here.
Many many short/long musics and bridges here, and moreover
you are given the latest two missing op/ed songs !
Very enjoyable too, same style as "Music Sour".
With only these 2 CDs, you may own 90% of all Maison Ikkoku BGM.
CD jacket :
Again, many many screenshots from TV episodes,
but these are mainly from the latest ones.
Front side :
A "softly drawn" sketch (have a look at it, you will understand why)
featuring (again ?) Godai and Kyoko, but this time =maybe=
already married (at least, the sketch lets you think it).
Godai is holding a red bicycle (hmm hmm... because he had no money
to pay a "beautiful red car" to his beloved wife ? :-) ) with
a shopping bag full of bread, apples, etc... and
Kyoko is tenderly clinging to his left arm, holding in her
right arm a bunch of flowers. It is supposed to be a spring
scene, since the background blue sky is full of cherry flowers
petals...
Back side :
A typical ending picture, taken probably just after Haruka-chan
(I hope you know her) was born, with all main characters
standing up in front of Ikkoku-kan, except Godai and Kyoko,
with Haruka in her arms, sitting on green chairs.
Kyoko's father is holding a present (for Haruka ?) while
Ichinose has brought her usual "party accessories" : a bottle of
sake and a Japanese fan.
Asusa looks pregnant (again ? :-) ) while Yotsuya has the
same face expression as in the latest scene of the latest
TV episode 96 (that is, contemplating Haruka).
Note that this "birth" picture is also printed, enlarged,
on the back of the jacket inside the CD box.

*** [7] MAISON IKKOKU MUSIC COCKTAIL ***
*******

Time: should be nearly same as Music Blend
Tracks: 26
Songs: 4
Maker: Kitty Records, Polydor K.K.
Year: 91
Number: H33K20030
Price: 3100 yens (the most expensive one !)

Comments :
I haven't bought it yet, since it is a perfect copy of
"Music Blend", except for the first track, which is now
"Fantasy" (instead of "Kanashimi yo konnichiwa").
If you still have "Music Blend", save your money for another CD,
unless you couldn't sleep without having ALL of them (just like
me, so that I will buy it soon... and fill up this report !).
Front side :
It has also the worst front sketch among all CDs.
Kyoko is pretty drawn, looking rightwards but... SQUINTING !
What a shame !
Back side :
Godai and Kyoko, swinging on twin see-saws

*** [8] MAISON IKKOKU MUSIC CALENDAR CD 1992 ***
*******

Note: too bad I was not here on time to buy the former ones...

Time: 21:24
Tracks: 12
Songs: =none=
Maker: Kitty Records, Polydor K.K.
Year: 1992
Number: KACD1015
Price: about 2500 yens, but cannot be sold separately from the
Maison Ikkoku Calendar 1992

1- Kanashimi yo konnichiwa (hello sadness)
2- Ashita hareru ka (tomorrow will be fine ?)
3- Shinema (cinema)
4- Aro-n agein (alone again)
5- Getto daun (get down)
6- Yokan (presentiment)
7- Fantaji- (fantasy)
8- Sukisa (I love you)
9- Sani- shaini- mo-ningu (the sunny shiny morning)
10- Sayonara no sobyou -dessan- (a goodbye sketch)
11- Hidamari (a sunny spot)
12- Bigin za naito (begin the night)

Contents :
All of them are performed on synthesizers, and based on the
original song themes.
I got bored when I listened to it for the first time,
but now I just find it amazing, but not really good...
However, some "arrangements" are very well done,
while others stink (but that's only my own opinion :-) ).
Track 5 is the instrumental version of "Get down" from G. O'Sullivan
(ending theme of episode 24), and canNOT be found in
original sung version anywhere else (although the op theme "Alone
again" from the same author can be found on "Music Shake", track 56).
Track 11 was sung by Murashita Kouzou (latest op theme),
but cannot be found in Maison Ikkoku CDs too, since he edited
this song on his own CD "Hidamari" (the CD has been given the
name of his Maison Ikkoku opening theme song !).
CD jacket, front side, back side :
None (inserted inside Calendar's jacket)

--------------------------- end (provisionally !) ---------------------------

I hope you liked it.
