In the past four years I have only seen four different
"tentacle porn" anime. Why so little for someone who
actually supports such films? I don't search for this type
of anime, I just sometimes check out what comes my way. My
first experience, four years ago, watching such anime was a
pleasure. It was "Urotsukidoji I" and since then, I have
never seen or heard of any "pornime" that can rival it.
Most of what I'm about to say is MOP but I think some
of what I have to say makes sense.
Urotsukidoji I is much more complex than your average
porn flick. Oh, I won't even begin to assume that
Urotsukidoji is some type of art film or other. I agree
that its main reason for being is to show animated
pornography. But someone during the making of "U I" must of
stood up and said, "Hey, guys. Lets make a good film that
includes sex, violence, and rape. Not just sex, violence,
and rape." Whoever was involved with "U I" I have a feeling
were not involved with "U II + III."
Urotsukidoji I is also about love, sacrifice, and
mistakes. Its characters are individuals and have their own
faults.
Where to start? The first thing that must be
understood about "Urotsukidoji I" is that the title does not
mean "Legend of the Overfiend." The title translates to
"Wandering Kid" and the main protagonist is not Nagumo, whom
everyone believes to be the Overfiend, but Amano Jyaku who
has traveled the human realm for over four hundred years,
driven by his curiousity and desire to be part of the making
of the great new world that the Overfiend is supposed to
create. This legend, of the Overfiend, Amano believes in
fanatically.
I will now use parts of the third OAV from
"Urotsukidoji I" as proof that it is not all just about
violence, death and rape (although the series does show all
three very well). Nagumo and Akemi, the girl he loves,
finally take the last step in their relationship and join
together in a very cheesy love scene that made my stomach
curdle. Neither realizing that their innocent love would
end up destroying the world. As it turns out, Nagumo is not
the Overfiend. He was destined to be the father and Akemi
the mother and at the moment of conception, Akemi's body is
taken over by the real Overfiend, until its birth. When
asked who Nagumo really is, the Overfiend answers with this
strange comment, "Just a male that was meant to make my
birth possible." This comment is strange since it is coming
from a film thats supposed be sexist and objectify women.
Amano realizes too late that the legend he believes in
is wrong and that the one that the demons believed in is
correct. The Overfiend has come to destroy the world.
Amano is given a chance to save the world, but he balks for
several reasons. One, he cannot believe that Nagumo would
destroy the world. Two, he cannot accept the fact that he
had wasted over four hundred years searching for a lie. A
once nemesis, manages to harm the demon into unconsciousness
and pays for it with his life. Amano is the only one strong
enough to finish the job. But instead, Amano sits down and
sulks. Nagumo's demon body awakens and attacks Amano and
his little friend, Kuroko and his sister. Amano cannot
believe that Nagumo would attack him and begs for Nagumo to
change back. Kuroko and his sister pay for his hesitance
with their lives. Only then does Amano realize what he must
do but too little, too late.
Throughout the third OAV, there are only two scenes
involving sex. One, is the cheesy scene I described above
and the other is a scene involving a threesome between
demons, two of which sacrifice their lives to bring the
other back to life, so he can fight the Overfiend and save
Earth. He is the one who gives Amano the chance to destroy
the Overfiend, but as stated above, Amano balks. There is
no rape in the third OAV, surprise surprise.
It is not the violence, rape or death that made me
enjoy Urotsukidoji so much. You can get all three of those
watching any American film, such as "Species." What makes
Urotsukidoji such a wonderful film, is the protagonist's
mistakes and the suffering he must follow because of them.
At the end of the OAV, the Overfiend challenges Amano to
survive the destruction and see the new world it creates
from scratch. Amano replies, "Fine. I will wander and
wander (urotsi, urotsi) but I WILL NOT DIEEE!!"

exactamundo.. urotukidoji COULD have been a great anime if it STUCK with
the complex plot etc and left out the mega graphic rape scenes... oh, then
it would no longer be porn.. no longer be sleazy and just a great
anime...
but it IS h anime which sell for the rape scenes of young girs.. that's
disgusting... if the intentions were so great as to have a great story...
they could have done it without the rape... but they do it for money etc
etc...
argh... you're arguments are good.. but your premises are wrong...
supporting an anime that depicts graphic rape scenes when they didn't have
to and still tell a cool tale....

Toon: You've gotta be kidding!!!!! You say that there's NO support
for H Anime?!!! You go over to Matt Greenfield's house and
see it!!! Look at the pretty car, er, I mean CARS he drives
around in!!! You think he got those things by "Sol Bianca",
Nope. Nuku-Nuku? I don't think so.
It's "F-3", "Twin Dolls", "Angel of Darkness", and "Dragon
Pink" that's buttering HIS Bread, though he'll deny till
crack(hehehe) of Doom it's not. Urotsukidoji is in a genre
onto it's self, and will be required in any proper hentai's
video library. ^_^

Toon: No dispute here. If the rape scenes were removed, I think it
would still have a following. Though I fear that the wanton
slaughter of young girls would remain. {what a double
standard: rape is anacceptable, but mass murder is. ^)^ }

Toon: NO ONE CONSCIOUSLY SUPPORTS the kinds of actions which occur
in a lot of H anime, but viewing it satisfies a natural
action which is in all of us, Curiousity. Voyuerism. Jest
plain being nosy. A lot of us carry cravings, urges, lusts
which we dare not expose to others. These are satisfied by
some by creating these "visual releases", others are
satisfied by merely watching them.
MIND YOU, I WILL NEVER CODONE NOR ACCEPT THE PRACTICES OR ACTIONS
YOU MAY SEE IN SOME H ANIME BEING TURNED INTO REALITY BY LESS-STABLE
FOLK, AND THOSE WHO DO DESERVE WHAT THEY GET FROM AN UNFORGIVING
PUBLIC. ^___^
yeah, sheesh, i just realized i wrote that (or at least implied that) it
must be the american media induced paranoia that i have. hmm, in
urotsokidoji i don't think they show a woman just plain "getting killed"
...always getting raped to death.
the mass murder scenes in U 1 is of woman getting raped to death in a
"mass rape" way. yck.
the destroyed neo tokyo scene does NOT show the people dying (as opposed
to fist of teh north star or akira where they show people getting
killed) anyways, U 1 has a cool plot etc etc.. lots of potential but i'm
skeptical to watch the other 2 series if they're gonna be as graphic as
the first.
anyways, i think tokyo has one of the lowest crime rates in the world?
(correct me if i'm wrong) but they do have a huge porn / hanime / hard
core manga industry... mabe it has to do with the fact that some
seriously fucked up people can read about it rather than act out on
it...
the reason why i don't have a huge prob with U, is cuz it's not like
pedophilia pictures which hurt real children etc. but it gives the
american media clips to hurt the reputation of anime in general.. which
sucks.
i dunno, mike tyson pummeling mcneeley was more violent than all of the
anime put together... a real person getting the hell kicked out of him.

Wait, we're talking demons here. What more abhorible than
murder? Well, some people feel that its rape. So, demons are evil so
they go around raping girls. I know, I know, they didn't have to show
it, but hey, I enjoy horror shows with people's limbs getting cut off
(watch "Dead Alive" hilarious, hilarious) and murder, and I enjoy
watching some (and I really mean some) H-anime. Not that I run around
killing people and raping them. In fact, I'm a firm believer in equal
rights and also the thought of taking another human life, other than your
own, sickens me.

It doesn't always have to do with rape.

As I said above, I don't condone violence to women, but I do
enjoy watching violence, murder, and other horrid stuff as much as I
enjoy cheesy romance and dramas (such as Oh! My Goddess) as long as its
not real. There are documentaries out there showing people getting
killed. I don't know what the difference is, but this stuff really gets
to me. Makes me want to puke.

Actually, whats really scary is that there are, as you well know.
RR.
Does it matter? No real plot, no real reasons for her to be
running around, no real reason for her sister to get caught in the first
place, the whole thing is stupid and silly. Some people enjoy that kind
of stuff but I feel it degenerates the whole H field.
> Nope. Nuku-Nuku? I don't think so.
Hey, I like Nuku-Nuku.

Then there are a lot of people with some serioiusly bad taste out
there. These titles which I see out there I think are almost exactly
like "La Blue Girl." No real reason for being, if you ask me. Lame
plots, lame sex, lame anime. I ain't wasting my bred on that. Unless
one of these particularly caught your attention, please tell me.
RR.
Well, I think there is a reason for being: people want to see them. It's quite
true that if people won't buy something, it won't get sold, and shortly
thereafter won't get made. I don't know how large the market for this is
in Japan (though I would conjecture it's sizeable), but in the U.S. there does
in fact seem to be a substantial market for the hard H stuff...
