Here is a somewhat edited compilation of messages from Animag's
BBS, Valley of Wind. Some of the news is old, but some of it may be
interesting. It is real long, but if anyone has suggestions, let me
know. (I hope I don't get yelled at for posting such a large
message...) The messages are mainly about the magazine, and
publishing. I think I edited most of the junk out.

is that it will be late (again), which comes as a suprise to no one....
since the conception of Animag, (I remember it was in my high school days)
there has only been 7 issues, and I have graduated from high school for
close to 3 years now... that comes down to... roughly 5 month inbetween
each issue, on the average?...

Well, we originally planned to have the issues come out bi-monthly, but
various delays in production have generally prevented this. This was true
for issues #5 and #6. Issues #7 and hopefully #8 and #9 have been and will
be more or less released on a bi-monthly schedule.

As for the date on the Ronin Network newsletter, that was due to the fact
that there were delays during that time, and when the newsletter was being
put together, that date was the expected time that it was to be released.

Whether the issue is late or not right now more or less depends on our
printer's reliability to get it out on time. Our first issue came out in
July of '87, and our last issue was out in August of '89. By my estimates
that makes about 3.5 months between issues, not taking into account that
up until #5 we were on a quarterly schedule.

Yes, ok...
ANIMAG #9... Are you sill planning to do a story on Grave of the Fireflies
as a side-bar story to Miyazaki.. and what's your Miyazaki story going to
be like? How about an interview (or perhaps if you can get the rights,
translating the millions of interviews he's done... or at least 1 or 2...
You can find them in Animage, the Roman Albums for the movies he's done,
etc....)

As far as I know there isn't going to be any coverage of Grave of the
Fireflies in #9, but then again things have been constantly changing so I
could be wrong. There *is* going to be an article on Miyazaki and his
works though (Grave wouldn't count since it wasn't done by him) that'll be
in #9. We weren't fortunate enough to get an interview with him, but I'm
sure if the chance ever arises we wouldn't miss it. I haven't actually
read the article so I'm not sure the specific aspects of it, but perhaps
you could ask Taka, since he was involved in its writing.

Well, we're trying to move away from heavy synopsis articles so you may be
out of luck if you want more OAV synopses. We tend to choose subjects
that we feel would be interesting enough to appeal to a broad amount of
our readers, but at the same time trying to avoid subjects that have
thoroughly covered elsewhere. We've only done an article on the first
A-ko video, and since it was the one that best exemplified the theme of
the A-ko videos, I don't it'd be necessary to cover the other videos.

I would think Dirty Pair was throughly covered in Animag #4, and yet we

That's right, ARIEL was first a series of novels written by Yuichi

Well, we mailed the tapes back yesterday (first class) so I;m sure they
will be happy. They don't carry enough of the type of video I need anyway,
I'm going to check out Japan Culture Video in San Jose, though I hear
that they also will actually copy the tapes for you (A Video STORE!!!)
pretty well. Also, if you like OAV's, it's usually cheaper to buy (if
they have it) from Mikado than to rent from JV next door....

Well, we didn't "completely" cover Dirty Pair in #4, so we decided to more
or less finish it up in issue #8. Yamato is the main subject of issue #10
BTW if you didn't know already...of course, you'd have to define "weird"
videos to really try do anything on them. What might be weird for you
might be normal for someone else, so it's hard to try and make an easy
determination. Of course, if you'd like to be more specific than maybe
I'd have something more to go on.

I guess the little problem for me with Ariel is not knowing what kind of
humor to expect from the video, sort of like Gunbuster. Many people in
the audience who experienced Ariel with me didn't quite manage to get the
humors until the jokes have already passed. The action sequence was so
'bad' I really enjoyed it. The bit about the Mysterious Astronaut....
well... Interesting piece of information (who wrote what.), I'll impress
someone with it next time at some anime party.

Mikado only has the few basic stuffs, at N dollars a piece. I guess I'll
get my megazone 1 & 2 from them someday. (speaking of megazone I've seen
it so many, many, many times I've decided to copy some Dirty Pair over it,
since the copy I had was pretty bad). I guess the video collecting has,
for me, evolved into LD or naut situation. Yes I'm saving money. No I'm

two Dirty Pair posters on my wall. Oh well, when I'm talking about weird

Oh, I don't mean to sound too formal or serious in my replies, it's just
that since this is a public BBS, everyone sees them, so I try not to say
anything that might be taken wrongly. For instance, if I said there was
going to be an all "etchi" issue of Animag featuring Urotsukidoji, Cream
Lemon, Lolita anime, etc. etc. someone out there might *ACTUALLY* believe
me and expect us to put out such an issue. It might sound strange, but it
does happen.

It's true though, that there are "strange" videos like the ones you
mentioned that many viewers on this side of the Pacific can't make heads
or tails out of. But, being such they tend to have less appeal to people
simply because they're too strange or hard to understand, and since we try
to cover things that have broader appeal, we tend not to consider them.

-We're currently planning on having the much-delayed article on Gall

-We've covered Bubblegum Crisis 1 in #2, and BGC 2 & 3 in #4. We've
considered doing something on BGC 4-6, but nothing's definite yet.

-Project A-ko (first movie) we covered in issue #5. There are no
current plans for any further coverage of the other videos.

-Patlabor is another consideration, because of the recent debut of the
t.v. series and the movie, but again nothing's definite.

-We have no current plans for Appleseed.

Sorry dave,I can't do that dave. Actually, the store sold out, even my
friend had to settle for normal prices (actually, we also discovered that
the store closed permanently after the sale) at a different sotre. I
think he said he paid about $500 for his unit, and hooked it up, with an
adapter, to his Nanao Flexscan (now, nobody monitors the BBS). If you
still think that's a good price (too high for me) I'll give him a call.
Note, that is for a MODEL 500 WI monitor, or adapter, or very much at
all, since he got some parts from work... But he shopped around, so it
might be good.

I'm still looking at the SVHS enviously, but I also need a printer to do
my work processing. I could get a cheap printer and the SVHS soon, or get
a Paintjet, and the SVHS by selling some of my RC equipment, and the
paintjet. Hard call.

Will we be done with Zeta Gundam by then? I've reached the point when
it seems that the characters are all dancing on the heads of pins, waiting
for Bishop Berkely to fall...
Not that I have anything against a detailed synopsis, mind you. If
you ever get around to doing Orange Road, you can do it line by line...
In fact, if you need help, let me know! I can't speak Japanese, but there
might be something else that would help...
By the way--is there any chance in the near future ofAnimag doing
another poll? I can think of several possibilities, some of which can be
used without the vice squad impounding the magazine...

Well, issue #10 will have the last installment of the Zeta Gundam
synopses. They'll be the last of the multi-part detailed synopsis-type
articles for the magazine. We'll probably eventually get around to doing
an article on Orange Road, but it'll most likely be something similiar to
the articles on City Hunter or Zillion.

Hmmm...another poll might be useful, but we need to figure out a better

Animag #7? It came out back in....August I believe. It's a possibility
your comic store's distributor didn't have enough copies or wasn't able to
get any for #7. Our publisher has a policy of not having backlogs of
issues so he only prints up as many as there are orders for. If an order
comes after the issue's published the order might not get filled. Anyways,
you might be able to get one through Pacific Rim, but I'm not sure if
they still have any left, so you might want to check with them. Their
address is the same as our subscription address. Address your inquiry
