Someone posted an article protesting against the tooooooo bl..dy
scenes. He proposes that EVA should stop broadcasting. That's too
harmful for small children.
I don't want to translate the episode, and one of our translation team
also says "I dont want to watch the bl..dy scenes again and again to
write down the speech."
I know that the director Anno tried to describe the atrocity of the
war, and the coolness of the military people against bl..dy things in
the war. But there must be another way without just describing the
bl..dy scenes. It's easy to describe the atrocity of war and battle
with bl..dy scenes. But Artists must produce good scenes which truly
describe the atrocities.
If Eva is going more and more bl..dy and more and more cruel, chances
are that I will stop translation.

I'll have to see the episode in order to state an opinion, of course,
but, considering the agonized, painful state Shinji exhibited in the
early episodes, it seems to me the *emotional* base for violence has
already been established in the series. In other words, if the
depiction of violence has suddenly become bloody, it isn't gratuitous,
but rather reflects emotions previously portrayed in EVANGELION.
As an American anime fan, I have to wonder what it was about the
violence that particularly shocked you. I'm not being facetious; the
average American anime fan thinks that anime, unlike American
cartoons, doesn't shy away from depictions of violence, even
spectacularly graphic violence such as in AKIRA (when I saw the spy
being machine-gunned to pieces by the soldiers in AKIRA, I thought of
real-life pictures I had seen of Tienanmen Square, which were as bad).
So, as an American anime fan, I would like to know why Japanese anime
fans would be shocked by such violence.
It may be because you strongly identify with the characters by this
point, and consider the blood especially cruel. But I had such
feelings even in episode 3, during the "One Minute Warning" sequence
where Shinji attacks the Angel. He isn't in actual physical pain, but
the emotional pain (I don't believe his screams are from "warrior
spirit") that comes out of his mouth is really quite horrifying to
watch.
I don't believe that EVANGELION is a children's show; Anno
specifically asked the question of whether you can get past the age of
twenty and still be happy with robot and cute girl anime, and said he
would approach that question head-on in EVA. You know, when THE WINGS
OF HONNEAMISE came over to England, it had the scene of Shiro's
attempted rape of Leiqunni cut from the video release. Why? The
government censor said it was because it spoiled what was otherwise a
wonderful film for younger people. The problem is that HONNEAMISE
isn't a film made for younger people; it's made for adults. Obviously
EVANGELION is oriented towards a wider age group. But it is also a
show about "growing up"--not a wistful one like MAISON IKKOKU, but an
often harsh, unyielding vision of things coming to an end, with an
unknown future. Birth, after all, also means blood and pain. I don't
believe Anno is doing this for ratings; I think he's giving voice to
something inside himself.
I want to thank you in the strongest possible terms for
everything you and your friends have done to help fans throughout the
English-speaking world appreciate EVANGELION. I am sure I am speaking
for them as well when I say that if it isn't in your heart to
continue, we can only show gratitude for what you have already done.
But we would prefer that you stay.

On the other hand. I thought it was a powerful episode that
really made a statement. Can't do that every week or it would
immunise the audience.

I noticed, looking on fj.rec.animation.mindless.gainax.worshippers.
It looked like a nice fest as the slavish devotees see that their
god is cruel.
EVA, as you might have noticed, is not really intended for small
children. Anyone who thinks so needs to re-examine their values.
Anyone who thinks that they should stop EVA just because it had
a little violence in it that he couldn't handle is clearly mad.
If it appalls him that much, he shouldn't watch it.
He should run away, like Shinji can't.
>I don't want to translate the episode, and one of our translation team

its pretty simple dialog:
EVA-3 stomps EVA-2 and EVA-0 with no apparent effort, it seems
to be running on internal power, something is wrong with the
plug system.
EVA-3 then attacks EVA-1 but shinji wont fight back. His father
asks him why:
"No, I wont kill another human!"
Genji(??) then orders shinji cut out of the control loop and the
dummy plug system engaged. EVA-1 goes animal in a feast of
violence that poor shinji is powerless to stop.
Just to make matters worse, Misato isnt there in his time of need.
If you thought that was bad, touji's girlfriend is wondering where
he is.
Happy Endings are for wimps.

And very effectively too. look at the effect it had on you.
Look at the effect it had on the mindless gainax worshippers
on fj.animation.gainax.worship.

Will you run away, like Shinji doubtless wishes he could?
This, perhaps, is the question that this episode forces you to
face.

Hate to be the one to bring this up, but what happens in this episode
that is so cruel? I've really enjoyed the series so far (Although
I've only seen through ep. 3...) Did the team REALLY go off the deep
end?

Unfortunately Eva is going more and more low-level anime without deep
insights.
I watched Eva #19 today.
Eva #18 has truly bloody scene. I hate the episode. But I admit that
Eva #18 contains a lot of good expressions for mental things.
But #19 is only bizarrie (I am not sure if the word is appropriate to
use here). The story was cheap.
I know that the staffs of Eva production team must have been tired of
producing Eva.
I was truly disappointed.
Eva#20 will be more cheap.
