I have a friend who will be leaving wonderful (yah, right) L.A. and heading
up to Stanford for grad-school. Since I helped to addict him to anime, I
felt somewhat obligated to find out if there is any sort of anime club at
Stanford. Thanks in advance for any info.

HMC sucks (time, money, ...) Hardly time for enough anime.

There is a Cal-Animage chapter at Stanford. Hao Anh Le
(h...@leland.stanford.edu) is the coordinator over there.

Hao *was*. He's going to Japan. (I don't know exactly when.) He might even
be going to the fabled Waseda University! (Re: KOR)

Since more than one person seems to want information on
the Stanford anime club, I'll post it. Can never tell how many
silent readers want the facts as well.
The club is Stanford Newtype and is the Theta Chapter of
Cal Animage. Hao Lee is going to be in Japan this Fall but he
arranged for a new president. Unfortunately I can't remember his
name right now... ...he's I cool guy. I'm sure there'll be
flyers posted when meetings start up again. The meeting site is
in the Kimball Residence Hall.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, there's Cal-Anime Theta. They don't do much advertising, but then again
it's probably that people don't notice them much. I don't notice too many new
people showing up; it's usually the ones who are already familiar with anime
who attend the showings. Don't expect the audience that Cal has or anything.

We need MORE FUZZIES!!

Showings are usually once or twice a month. Last year, it was stuff like
Gundam 0083, KOR, Iczer, Sol Bianca, Akira, etc.

Hao has a lot of stuff, and I can dig up a list of his tapes if you really want
them. (He still hasn't given me back my _DP: Project Eden tape_, which his
friends erased by accident. :( )

I've been trying to get him to reserve the projection screen in Meyer, which,
IMHO, has a better sound system. I've actually taken my LD's and tapes down
there and given mini-screenings to my friends. I guess personal persuasion and
going through friends is the only way to spread interest in anime at Stanford.
I have to admit that KOR and BGC are a pretty good "generic" attention grabbers
but Guy and other H stuff did wonders for some of the guys. :)

By the way, James, (tron@leland), who _is_ the temporary new president?

I hope we get more trips to Mikado/Kinokuniya and Nikaku next year.

(Watch out for KOR freaks in Robinson house in 1993!)
