For clarification, irc.colorado.edu is a server but you must have an
irc client to use this. (I may be mistaken, but to the best of my
knoweldge, telnetting to irc.colorado.edu will just get you a login.)
Once you get on IRC (there are faq's... try searching in WWW or gopher for
them) join #anime! and start talking.

I believe there is also #hardKOR too. It seems to be vacant everytime I
check it out.

Wrong on both counts.
irc.colorado.edu is not a channel name; it is an IRC server and one of
the worst in terms of traffic. The name of the channel is #anime!
(don't forget the exclamation pt). The server is irrelevant, though
you should try to avoid Colorado, irc.indiana.edu, irc.ctr.columbia.edu
(both notorious split servers), and the entire w6yx.stanford.edu hierarchy.
Hope this helps,

No, don't. You'll be sorry.
And that doesn't even take into face the time lost while actually on

There is a fledgling #anime! FAQ by Steve Pearl (who else? :-) It
can be had, like everything else, at the Rutgers site,
remus.rutgers.edu, in the faq directory.
It's showing its age since it still mentions #animekoku (does anyone
still use this?)

#hardKOR is "my" channel. It's usually only around when I'm around,
though there's no way I can be for certain. I think in the slightly
over a year since I "started" it, there may have been five discussions
there the whole time. And this doesn't count the occasional X-rated
movie perv who has no idea what anime is and thinks hardKOR is a kewl
biff-style spelling :-P
'Course, it doesn't help that I'm usually busy on the main channel at
the same time, so I don't always notice people before they leave :-)

I'm told that some people still do. And the fact that it is in the irc FAQ means that people who are new to #anime! & irc will see it and be aware of it. Perhaps I should add that to the new schedule of regularly posted FAQs.

Hmm, I suppose though I doubt it. Most newcomers have no idea how to
start a channel or anything e;lse. 'course, it's not like I'm there
to watch for the existence of #animekoku or anything either, so who knows?
>Perhaps I should add that to the new schedule of regularly posted FAQs.
Yeah, good idea. Maybe it'll eliminate all those newcomers complaints
regarding how we never talk about anime :-)
