I'm a fan, but I have no idea where to get a soundtrack.

I LOVE Orguss02. I can't wait until I get the final volume. It's
such a well drawn and well scripted series. It definately deserves more
attention than it's getting.

Did anyone else have a sense of deja vous while watching this?
For some reason, Orguss02 reminded me, ALOT, of Wings of Honneamise. Was
the two of them done by any of the same men? The Artwork also reminds me
of Battle Angel, as well. Maybe it's the way the characters ears are
drawn. If you look at Hugo's ears, they seem to appear in Orguss02 as
well. I know, I'm proably just seeing things....but it crept up in my
mind so I thought I'd ask.

BTW, the dub is great! (for a dub...)

Nikaku Animart apparently has it in their October 25 catalog. Send an
e-mail to nik...@netcom.com with the word catalog in the subject line to
the latest e-mail version of the catalog.

Aye, this is one of the few giant robot shows that I can tolerate. It's not
up to Giant Robo's level, but then not much is. The last volume is easily
the best, IMHO. Maybe it's just the combination of nuclear explosions and
excessive vomiting...

Well, let's just say that the show is still good despite the dub, although
about a third of the series is subtitled (the Zafrin-speak). It does have
a better dub than GR.

The only problem with this soundtrack is that is does not have the
opening theme or the ending theme, all the music is done by Hikasu.
The Op and Ed were done by a group called Natural Selection... The
Hikasu music is pretty strange but it's ok, but if your looking
specifically for the op and ed themes then don't spend your money on this CD.

There is one soundtrack for Orguss 02. You can try

I'm not a big fan of it, but when I watched it I was haunted by the
song in the opening credits. Not many series do that for me. Can't
help you in finding it. CD's are one of the things I've been avoiding
in this hobby: I spend plenty enough on what few video tapes I have
as is.

The character designs are superb! I can definately see the similarities you
mentioned. The Wings of Honneamis comparison is one I'd like to hear you
elaborate on, however. One of the things that makes this series so enjoyable to
watch is the great interaction that goes on between the characters. You
genuinely care about what happens to everyone in the story (even Manning). I
also enjoyed the dubbing. I would love to get a copy of Orguss 02 subtitled,
however. If anyone has info on this, please contact me. Thanks!

Ouch! The opening and closing songs not on an Orguss 02 cd! That hurts. Thanks
for saving me some money, though. Is the Natural Selection cd readily
available, or am I sol?

It has one of the best bass lines I've heard in any Anime BGM.

It's a shame the songs aren't on the CD. Like the Rayerath CDs. The openings
are on a single CD somewhere...

It was just the whole world that Orguss02 and WoH operated in
seemed very similar in the images they put forth.
They seemed fairly old and rural and not too advanced, kinda like Romantic
assumptions of Feudal and Rennaisance Eurpoe, yet also posessed technology
that exceeded or matched that of our own times. Yet even THAT technology
had it's "backwards quirks". i.e. the use of Seekers instead of Video screens.
Also, trains figured prominantly in both; and both posessed that
old-yet-new style. Diabolical leaders who enjoy a good glass sauna were in
both, as were "bad guys" who speak a totally different language so as to be
subtitled, even in the straight Japanese version.
Psudo-Feudal government was a BIG part of both, as was the concept
of a large body of nationals being poor, and agrarian, and concerned about
money. Plus, don't forget the theme of these two nations being "constant
belligernets". i.e. Zaffrin v. Revillia and The N. Republic v. Honneamise

It wasn't the broad themes that seemed so similar, (Religion in WoH
and....uh...whatever was a broad theme in Orguss02) it was the universes that
these two titles operated in that seemed cut from a similar mold. Watch the
two again, and see if you can find other similarities in imagry or
lifestyles. There are tones.

And, as I said in the above, the drawing style in Orguss02 seemed
farmiliar. The artwork looked like a combination between Macross and Battle
Angel, IMHO. Any thoughts? Any reasons?

True, I can find almost no faults in the dub for the first 2 eps.
I have seem the next two and i remember it got a bit worse, but was still
an excellent dub throughout. (I haven't yet seen the last two parts of
Orguss 02 so spoilers please!)

They sure are! The modern Haruhiko Mikimoto (and someone else ^_^ sorry
forgot who!) character designs are one of the highlights of the show
for me. Always makes me think
"This is what Macross Plus SHOULD have looked like".
Don't know why the designs should remind you of Battle Angle/Gunnm...
Remind me of other Mikimoto works, most similar to Macross II.

Sorry can't help you there. I actually don't get the Wings comparison,
could someone say exactly what you mean?
Caring for the characters isn't something only these two shows have, so
what was it that made you think "Wings"??

The similarity to Macross is because the character designs in Orguss02
and Macross were both done by Hirohiko [sp?] Mikimoto.

Well I knew about the similar character designs from the people
here at raa --- the origional Orguss replaced SDF Macross in '84 (or whenever
it came out). So it's no surpirze to see the congruence between that and
Macross. But my question really lied (layed?) with why Orguss02 remined me,
a little, of Battle Angel. Was I smoking too much crack that day, or is
there a common thread in designers or artists or whatever?

Good call! Macross II definately is similar in design with Orguss 02.

I have one comparison that Dmabu missed. Both anime have undefinable enemies
until right at the end. Watching the first episodes of Orguss 02, I didnt know
what side to root for. Thats because there really is no "good side". Both the
Zafrin and Rivilian army are bent on a complete destruction of the other. This
theme also runs true in Wings of Honneamise. If the space program continues,
won't public programs and housing for the needy be pushed aside? And wont it be
the catalyst to start the war that the governments have been wanting for years?
Who is good and who is evil?

This says a lot about life in general. Are there ever any "good guys?" Isn't it
all based on perspective? I doubted at first that there would be any
Orguss02-Wings of Honneamise comparisons, but now that I think about it, there
are a few good ones.

Actually, I have found myself preferring the older Mikimoto designs to the
newer ones. Especially the way he is drawing eyes now. It just doesn't look
as good to me. I'd say I love everything up to his 0080 designs.

Glad you agree! :)
Of course the queen (forgotten her name) is Kazumi Amano from Gunbuster!
(someone else posted something about this).

Yup, I got most of the comparisons now. I guess the overiding feel of
the two shows is so different that i missed all the background
similarities.

You and Dmabu are right. Of course the "which side are the enemy" could
easily be seen as a similar thred to another mech show, namely
Gundam!
