Sure. No problem. Jpop/jrock is a part of anime that makes it so
enjoyable.
Here's a brief list of a small part of the rock and anime they

OP
Heart of Sword - T.M.Revolution Rurouni Kenshin 2nd
Season ED
Blurry Eyes - Cie Du L'Arc (sp?) DNA^2 OP
What's Up Guys Bakuretsu
Hunters TV OP
MASK Bakuretsu
Hunters TV ED
JUST toki o koete Dominion Crusher
Police 2 OP
Information High- Gabriela Robin Macross Plus
Watashi ga Futari Koko ni Iru Haunted Junction OP

I can name more, but I haven't gotten the ST to the series yet.
(waiting for Anime Weekend Atlanta to buy them all)

Bubblegum Crisis 2040 TV
Original Bubble Crisis OAV
The Hakkenden
Serial Experiment LAIN
Outlaw Star

And I'm sure that there's going to be someone who will add to this list.
Hope this helps you for now. Have fun.

The Kenshin first season OP is "Sobakasu" ("Freckles") by Judy and Mary.

> Serial Experiment LAIN

Opening is "Duvet" by BOA, and the ending song is by Reiichi "Chabo"
Nakaido, but I can't remember the title. He did most (maybe all) of
the rest of the music to Lain as well.

A list... ummm, compiling a list of anime related jrock I've listened to would be
a pretty sizeable task, but off the top of my head, here's the anime rock band
that springs immediately to mind:

Fire Bomber - The animated band in Macross 7 who perform pretty much all of the
music to the series. They have an amazing rock sound, making the Mac7 OSTs well
worth picking up. I've got Let's Fire, Second Fire, Dynamite Fire, Ultra Fire and
Radio Fire myself, and love each and every one of the STs... even Ultra Fire,
despite pretty much being a best of rehash. It's got "Angel Voice" on it though,
which is one of my fav Fire Bomber tunes, and isn't on any of the other STs I own.
Humming Bird is also worth looking into if you like Fire Bomber music, since
they're the real band behind the animated Fire Bomber and have put out some great
music independant of Mac7.

There's a hell of a lot of other good rock tunes throughout anime, like the
Berserk op "Tell Me Why" performed by Penpals, but my top recommendation would
still go with Fire Bomber... and I don't feel like listing the rest, me being the
lazy bastard that I am =P

They also did the Fourth Avenue Cafe and Niji for RK and Driver's High
for GTO.

Er... seeing as how I have every L'Arc album (aside from the latest
which I mentioned before), half of their singles (including the song in
question), the concerts where they perform the song, and then taking in
the fact that "michi" means "road", not "rainbow" which *is* "niji", I
would think I would know what I'm talking about.

Here's a list of my personal favorites (old school):

Good-bye, Lonely Blue by MIO from Area 88
The two ALfee songs from Lensman
Pegasus Fantasy from Saint Seiya (a cheesy classic)
Night of Summer Side from KOR
Bubblegum Crisis Vocal Collection 1 (the whole album rocks)
Megazone 23 pt 1
Tough Boy from the Hokuto no Ken 2 series and Heaert of Madness from the
movie.
and the song that makes it onto everyone of my Anime tunes tapes without
fail:

Get Wild and Tough by TM Network (from City Hunter)

Those are good starters.

Boy, that list really reveals my anime generation, doesn't it? Um, I love
Utena. That's new...right?

Ok, now that we've heard about everybody's favorite music titles and
bands, how about a few links to sites where we can download some samples
of your favorites. I know it's possibly illegal nowadays to get some
MP3s off the 'net, but do any of the aforementioned groups have websites
with samples of their music? I live in a rather musically depressed
part of the US, and whenever I go into a music store and ask about jpop
and jrock, all I get are blank stares.

The entire soundtrack to FLCL, by Mitsumune Shinkichi. It's absolutely
great stuff, heavy on the bass and guitar. I'd call it grunge if I
didn't virulently hate grunge with a passion. I'm getting this one on
import from Japan; it's worth the $30-40 to me.

I gotta ask: What's FLCL? Sounds great!

Of the top of my head, in no particular order:

Utena OST 1, for all those duel songs, plus everything else.

Serial Experiments Lain OST 1

Various opening themes: Kodomo no Omocha, Daisy, X. . .

And, of course, Cowboy Bebop!

It's Gainax's latest show, a six-part OVA (of which three have been
released) about a pre-teen punk, a bassist from outer space, a
pyromaniac, and giant robots. It's big and strange and eye-poppingly
well-animated. No one knows what the title means (including the
characters), but it's pronounced furi-kuri. Gainax was even nice enough
to include an English subtitle track on the DVDs-- but not on the first
volume, alas.

http://www.geocities.com/simonhulsinga/ and
http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews/region2/flcl_vol1.htm have more info,
and the first has the end theme in mp3 format, which is pretty
representative of the soundtrack.

It won't be the most intellectual anime you see this year but by God
it'll be the most fun.

Oh awesome! I wasn't really reading this thread but Mitsumune-san caught
my eye and now I must get this soundtrack. How many Furikuri CDs are
there?

For those who don't know, MItsumune Shinkichi is the guy who composed the
music for

Nurse Angel Ririka SOS
Shoujo Kakumei Utena
Akihabara Dennougumi

Definitely excellent stuff. My 2nd favorite composer after Kanno-sama.

Just the one (so far), which isn't even out yet-- the release date keeps

and 'Ride on Shooting Star'

Speaking of 'Utena' and 'Akihabara'...
Masami Okui sung the OP 'Revolution' in Utena, and both the OP & ED of
Akihabara.
She has also done the Slayers NEXT ED, and has a track on 'DiGi Charat'called
'Cuite'. She also has a new album out titled 'NEEI'
This is someone you should look out for in the j-pop catagory.
