I have only seen the "Americanized" version of Sailor Moon and I heard
some characters were cut out. Is this true? In the American show there is
only : Sailor Moon (duh), Sailor Venus, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, and
Sailor Jupiter. Is there a Sailor Pluto or Saturn? I would REALLY like to
know!! Thank you in advance!!!!

The 9 planets are indeed represented in Sailor Moon (Tuxedo Mask
represents Earth).
You'll just have to wait beyond the second season (+ US episode 80) to
see them all (Wait until you see Sailor Pluto! We're talking "mature!")

Not cut out. You seem to be impatient. ^_^ In the first 46 episodes, there
were only the five 'Inner' Senshi. Then in the later series, they introduced
Uranus & Neptune, Saturn, and I think even Pluto...but they're different in
some kind of strange ways...anyway, look at the venice ftp site for any
pictures marked 'Haruka', 'Michiru' and 'Hotaru', and they'll be Uranus,
Neptune and Saturn respectively, I believe (not quite sure about Pluto)...

There are FAQs for a reason, you know. :-)

Characters are not cut out.

Sailors for the other planets don't appear until rather late; you won't see
them until Fall 1996. (Exception: Tuxedo Mask represents Earth, so there isn't
anyone else for Earth.)

While we're on this subject:

Has Tuxedo Kamen's origins, capabilities and agenda ever been explained
at some point in the series? He seemed to be there from the beginning
and appears to be quite powerful even though he rarely takes direct
action in a fight. Does Luna or Artemis know anything about him? If
not, who is he working for?

The cats don't know the Senshi, either. When Ami appeared, Luna thought her
energy might mean she's from the Dark Kingdom; Luna didn't recognize her even
though they looked exactly the same as on the moon. (Heck, Usagi looks exactly
the same too.)

Then again, look again at the FIRST EPISODE, if you notice the part where the
sailor scouts are in bubbles floating to earth, if you look to the RIGHT of
Serena, look what you find.....TUXEDO MASK/KAMEN!!!! But then again,
everyone lost their memories when they made the flight from the Moon to Earth
too. If that was the case that Luna and Artemis know about him, wouldn't she
(since Artemis hasn't appeared yet) have told her about him? But from
Episode 1, I believe he was probably working with Princess Serenity.

Serena's brother has only appeared in one or two episodes (# CA2 and # CA3)
CA = Canadian/American

But so far they haven't gotten rid of many, but they have been doing a swell
job of at least keeping to the original as close as possible.

Luna doesn't know about him for the same reason Luna doesn't know about
anyone else. She doesn't say "look, I feel a strange energy in that Ami
girl, and she looks exactly like Sailor Mercury. I know who she is".
Instead, Luna doesn't recognize Sailor Mercury until the very last moment.

It's a plot device, more or less. If you want to you can say that they
don't really look the same as they did on the moon, but they're just drawn
that way for the sake of the viewers.

My girlfriend is still eagerly awaiting the arrival of Sailor X.
Speaking of Sailors based on nebulae, I remember hearing a rumour
some time ago that the next Sailor Moon would have Sailors from
alpha centurai. Seriously!
GEEZ! Don't they think that nine (maybe ten) Sailor Senshi ar
enough?! It must be becoming pretty crowded on that show ... ten
minutes of every episode taken up with the transformations. :)

Heh. Reminds me of a fanfic I'm working on - the heroines are Sailor
Comet Kohoutek, Sailor Titania, Sailor Comet Halley, Sailor Chiron,
Sailor Rama and Sailor Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9. And there's at least
passing references to such diverse folk as Sailors Phobos and Deimos to
Sailor Oort Cloud. Rather entertaining (I hope). And with that said,
I'd better get back to work on it...

I don't want to spoil things by telling you Tuxedo Kamen's true identity
and background (have patience.)

As for his capabilities, he can do whatever it takes to make a really
cool dramatic enterance. Once I saw him walk out of a billboard! Also,
he has a variety of tricks with his extendable fighting cane and roses,
again doing whatever is needed/appropriate/cool at the moment. Since he
is a bit of a "dues ex machina" character, his schtick isn't as
well-defined as the sailors'.

I knew his identity from episode 1. I'm surprised Usagi-chan didn't
figure it out at his first appearance. What has yet to be given is info

Yep, Serena has never shown herself to be particularly bright. Notice in
this morning's episode that when Serena and Rei (ok, Raye) are sitting on
that mini-train and they see Darien sitting in front of them Rei has
enough of a clue to point out that Darien looks a lot like Tuxedo Kamen
(er Mask), and that Serena, even after having this pointed out to her
*still* can't see it... very very dense! :)
Oh yah, I also noticed today that when Rei does her banishment of evil
spirits thing with those papers, that they edited out that man (samurai?
whatever he is) thing that appears in that firey flash that follows every
word of her recitation.

Geez, what do ya think of when you hear the word "scouts"? I'm
thinking of good little girls who don't have the will or the means to
harm a fly.

How many of you new Moonies (and old ones) are actually

whining. (And BOY does she whine!) I like the friendly rivalry that
goes on between the two. Makes for interesting interaction. (Ever
notice that Rei is usually right when they argue?)
One other thing...at least Rei has her studies from the temple. It
just dawned on me that Serena attends "Crossroads JUNIOR HIGH". Junior
high??! I'm watching anime that centers on junior high school girls??!
Usually, anime characters, especially the main characters, are portrayed
as being in high school already. Hmmmm...disturbing, isn't it? ^_^

Usagi-chan gives her age as 14. That should make her a koukousei. At
least it would in the US.

It's not one of those. According to the synopsis, that was there in the
original (actually, they were made of _sand_). I just watched the scene from
the episode; they were. No changes needed.

So what ? This is a TEAM of warriors. Throwing Fog might not be very
impressive, but it is QUITE useful when you want to keep a secret identity.
It ALSO helps when you desperately need to get away and can't/don't want to
afford a confrontation with your enemies.

Also makes for nice plots, since Mercury by herself seems rather defenceless.

BTW, about that other comment:
`Why do all the action always occur in Tokyo ?'
I guess everybody has figured out by now that the Youma are somewhat related
to the Sailor Senshi... I know that the anime drags it on and on, and that
the plot is thinner than in the manga, but...
And after all, don't forget that Tokyo is the center of the world, not
New-York :-)

when all the Senshi finally get together, maybe they will find a big
spaceship or something for transportation, you never know :-)

One very nice thing with Sailor Moon is that the combats get better. All of
our heroines start out as klutz, unable to make it out without Luna or
`Tuxedo-Kamen sama---t' (except for Sailor V, of course), but they get better
and better as the story progresses. LOADS of team-ups between Mars and Jupiter,
Moon and Mercury. (I guess that having more money for the animation from the
start of SM R on helps too :-) )

And Mercury will get other powers, eventually... just wait...

Each of them represents a day of the week!

Moon Monday
Mars Tuesday
Mercury Wednesday
Jupiter Thursday
Venus Friday

I guess this is why they don't show it on weekends :-)

I must have missed this thread on my last pass...

All of the girls are 14 years old. Usagi, herself, says that in her
self-introduction. All of them go to junior high/middle school. I
don't remember if Serena ever says what her age is...

Rei wears a different uniform because she goes to a different junior
high school than Amy or Serena...

Well don't forget, there will eventually be more than 5 sailors :) Don't
leave out Sailor Neptune, Sailor Uranus, Sailor Pluto, Sailor Saturn, and
Sailor Chibi Moon, not to mention Tuxedo Kamen, who, though isn't a
sailor, represents Earth :)

This is correct. The Chinese characters for the planets is used also to
represent the days of the week. The Japanese adopted these symbols and

Um. Strictly speaking, how are the bad guys from the Negaverse
going to find out? Those who _witness_ the transformation don't
generally survive to report on their observations.

None, actually, except the one where Jadeite does find out, and then gets
permanently preserved before he gets a chance to tell Queen Beryl who they are.
They do change in front of the monsters, but the monsters get killed every
episode.

Actually, its 6 years of elementary school, 3 of junior high, and 3 of
high school. Either way, its still 12 years of education.

This episode's "Sailor Says..." should have been about opening other
people's mail. That letter Serena read was addressed to someone named
"Tsukino Usagi-sama". ^_^

Okay, I stand corrected. I should have said, "Are they that stupid to not
chicken out the fight, return to Queen Beryl or Nephylite, and inform
them that Serena, Rei, and Ami are really the Sailor Scouts?"

Hmm, I don't know about that. The Dark Kingdom/Negaverse knows that
Sailor Moon is pretty pathetic as well. You'll see later on (If they
don't skip it?) when they try to hold that 'Princess Academy' thing or
whatever it was called. It was one of the 'trying to discover the
identity of Sailor Moon' episodes. They were looking specifically for
someone who would *FAIL* the school, figuring that Sailor Moon is such a
pathetic klutz that only she could fail such a class. Oh and one of the
requirements to get into the class is skill at frisbee-throwing, the one
thing SM would be good at, what with all her tiara-tossing. How silly! :)
I hope I am remembering that episode right :)
