I finished up my revised AMV and submitted it to Otakon, now I'm
waiting to see if it makes the cut and into the contest proper.
I glommed the video source off the only Trigun DVD I have, and
figured out how to de-interlace the fool thing, so the picture
quality is pretty good for converted video. Plus, I bought a
copy of Final Cut Express (used my student discount and got the
non-upgradeable Academic version for about 1/3 the price!) to edit
the video. I also changed some of the clips that I used from the
one I first made many months ago, I think these work a bit better.

In case anyone's interested (crickets chirping) I put a somewhat
lower-quality version on my website (sorry, it's in Quicktime,
hate me if you must).

Wish me luck!

It looks nice. The song seems appropriate. But I'm not very AMV
knowledgable, so I have a few questions:

First the obvious ones:

- Why that set of clips? Was it because of the song, or did you pick the
clips first and decide upon the song afterwards?

Next, the less obvious ones:

- How did you decide what you were attempting to accomplish?

- What do you want your audience to get out of the AMV?

Thanks -

Definitely the song came first, although that episode sprang to
mind when I re-listened to the song. I had last listened to it
years ago, before I became a full-bore otaku, and when I was
cleaning out my collection of CDs to sell, I re-listened to it.
Fortunately I had the DVD with that episode, so I had all the
necessary materials.

I basically wanted to re-tell the final day of Wolfwood, with
the Pat Benatar song as the theme music. According to Benatar,
she wrote the song about suicide, and I thought that there's
sometimes a fine line between that and self-sacrifice. As for
how I decided, it just seemed like a neat thing to do, and I've
wanted to do an AMV for a long time. I've personally done just
about all aspects of otakudom, I've cosplayed at a con, sold
artwork in the art auction (although nothing ever went to the
full auction), and now I've made an AMV. I have yet to make a
doujinshi, participate in a masquerade, or sell stuff in the
dealer's room, but I'm hitting the stations of the otaku...

Just an emotional reaction, maybe some sadness, I figure some
people will laugh, and I figure there will be some who hate it
because of the use of Christian symbols in the video and lyrics.
Some will hate it because it looks like it's proselytizing,
and some will hate it because they think it's mocking their
religion. Shoot, I'll be glad if people just say, "nice music,
I remember that episode, pretty neat" and go on. After voting
it best in the category of course! ^====^
