What do you think the bra sizes of the Eva chicks are? Here are my best
guesses.

Asuka - 30C
Hikari - 30C
Maya - 32C
Rei - 32D
Ritsuko - 34E
Misato - 36F

Misato is a C-cup by American standards, yeah.

Also let it be known OFFICAL measurements are one thing. Those don't have
the final say as to how characters look when they're drawn OUT, unless you
believe in some fanservice-standard-deviation.

For most anime, 'C cup' is pretty much considered shorthand for busty. How
an artist draws it is their own business. (Anyone remember the 'shoujo's
heights' thread?)

Let me put it this way. You know Annie, Spike's friend in Cowboy Bebop?
She's a DD or E. Misato is not an E. Misato is probaby a C/D.

I think there's a comparison that goes something like this

Japanese American
B A
C B
D C
E D
F DD

and whatnot.

So Misato would be a D cup. I'm not sure what the other official sizes
are, but compare as you will.

And I could be entirely wrong about this. My sum knowledge of bras and
all things related is rather miniscule. I'm garnering this knowledge
from Google.

OMFG!!!!! I could just bury my face btween those huge fucking tits. Misato
is fucking gorgeous. If she were my woman, i would fucking IMPALE her until
she SCREAMED

Shinji is such a little wuss. He gets to live with Asuka, a big titted slut
like Misato and hang around with Rei, who probably is the sexiest anime
chick ever and he doesn't even get laid once.

If I were in the Evangelion universe, Id be like a dog with two dicks. There
are just so many hot chicks around. I'd have screwed Rei, Asuka, Misato and
Ritsuko several times within the first week. :)))

I'd probably end up running out of sperm cause of all the action Id get.

I think when "Suicide" mentioned "figures,"
he took into account the charas' onscreen figures.
Nevertheless, it's still just anime, not real life.

As someone who has done security work before, I must note that some
metal detectors (worked with the big portable kind) tend to be a bit
iffy where that's concerned. You don't want to take ANY chances at all.

One time the detectors were so sensitive, they went off if you knocked
on the table next to them (the one where you get the people to put their
metal items, cellphones etc). Yet if they were turned down just a notch,
small metal items (keys, etc) would pass through without triggering. If
you think that's ok, well, think about the implications of someone
having a switchblade (or two) with them.

Hmm. I remember seeing a description of general cartoon physics somewhere
on the web at some point. Things like if you run off a cliff or something
and there's no ground supporting you, you won't actually fall until you
look down and realize there's nothing under you. Does anime have its own
set of physical laws, too, that's somewhat different? :) Or did you just
sum it up and it's basically just the characters' physical dimensions and

Ummm.. many women do, actually. Breasts have weight, and can be painful
to "carry around" without some support (yes, even just walking). I know;
I've experienced that, and I'm only a B-cup!

I'm sure that's true and the larger they are, the more weight you have to
carry and thus the more support you need. I wouldn't doubt that there's
more to it than that though.

I think that we know that it is a necessity for some women, but probably
underestimate just how many women that includes. I mean, we don't actually
have firsthand knowledge of the issue since we're not physically built the
same way. We don't experience it ourselves, so we have to make a guess at
what it's like. Chances are we tend to guess wrong. Of course, I think
knowledge of the opposite gender will always be limited, at least to some
degree, so you have to help correct misconceptions when you can and be
aware that there are some things that we just won't ever really understand
about each other. Drifting away from the original subject of the Eva
women, but I felt like adding a comment about this.

Indeed. And some women have to get breast reduction surgery regardless,
since they're so big. And I think every guy who whines about that should
have to wear that equivalent mass on his chest for a week--round the
clock--so he knows WHY women do that. It's not to spite you poor
mammophiles, it's cuz constant back pain is NOT fun.

No, of course not. Which is why we do *have* to wear bras. It's not just
to look pretty or to be "perky", it's to save us constant pain. But since
certain men seem to think women shouldn't wear bras, what are the options?
That was my point.

This was actually pointed out in The Simpsons's "Strong Arms of the Ma."
Marge actually complains about back pain following her accidental breast
implant surgery. A silver lining in an episode otherwise reminiscent of the

Well, for women whose breasts aren't out-of-proportion to their stomach
and lower back muscles, the only pain from not wearing a bra comes when
you're excercising (and even with a bra, it can still hurt). Other
options other than bras might include binding the breasts (essentially
just wrapping cloth around the chest until comfort level is achieved).

the amount of women who need to wear bras while excercising is probably
upwards of 50%. And excercising can be taken loosely... a light walk
(3.5 mph or higher) counts as excercise.

To bring it back on topic, a fair number of swordgirls do the wraps, like
Motoko Aoyama (who actually IS bustier than she looks).

Interestingly enough, Rin from GAINAX's Mahoromatic is supposed to be
atypically busty for her age, although she's drawn fairly tastefully. She
actually mentions to her friends being busty is bad, because people think
you're dumb and you get back pains easily.

Dunno how this explains Shikijoh-sensei, although she has gagboobs likely
not following the rules of physics.

Does she also wrap her belly? (in ancient times, wrapping of the belly was
to let a samurai keep on fighting, even after taking a gut wound, which
would otherwise cause the intestines to roll out of the wound).

Since this was the only part with a question, I'll reply just to it.

>> I wouldn't doubt that there's more to it than that though.

>I'm not sure what you mean here?

I guess that was kind of vague. Basically I was just allowing for factors
other than only breast size to have an effect on how much pain one might
feel from carrying them around without support. At the time, I was thinking
that given a particular breast (bra) size, a smaller, more petite woman
might have a harder time supporting their weight than a woman of medium,
average build might. It could be more weight relatively speaking since
her body is small, thus more painful for her than other women with a larger
build but the same sized breasts. Maybe I'm a little confused, my knowledge
on the subject is admittedly rather limited, but I was just saying that I
wouldn't be surprised if factors other than simply breast size contributed
how much pain you might feel from them without the support of wearing a bra.

Well, Catherine pretty much summed it up. The only thing I'd add to what she
said about pain is that Happosai is right, whether Ranma's willing to admit
it or not. They do sag if there isn't a bra to support them. Gravity pulls
the weight of the breast down and stretches the skin and muscles that attach
breasts to the chest wall. And that hurts. And the bigger the breasts, the
further south they drop. Bras take the weight off the chest wall and
redistribute it to the shoulders via the straps, which is why women with
large breasts often develop deep grooves in their shoulders and rounded
shoulders and neck problems. And those hurt too. The weight of the breasts
is more than the neck and shoulders can support, even with a bra. If a
woman's breasts are big enough that the HMO is willing to pay for the
reduction, she should go for it, I say, and save the extra years of chronic
pain.

ROFL

That's nothing compared to the mental image I just had of myself walking
into the classroom dressed like some of my female students. Sometimes they
have so much on display I have a hard time not staring or saying something
like, "Does your mama know you dress like that?" Just this afternoon I was
at a Study Abroad meeting, and my colleague, a very blunt Polish woman, told
the girls, "You can't show that much cleavage in Italy. The men will pinch
you and follow you back to the hotel."

Well, as many girls in college had told us many times
(didn't teachers ever tell ya it never hurts to ask? ^_^ ),
it's not really a problem for them or don't mind it much.
Maybe because it's college and/or they're still young
that as they age and breasts sag, the weight distribution changes
so the pain starts creeping in... or something. ^_^;;
But point is, 'tis not a big deal to them (god bless youth).

Let me put it this way. Not to generalize or denigrate any of the people
here, but IMO if you (as a guy) are going to commit to being with a
woman, you should be prepared to make a lifetime committment. (Eergh,
that sounds like one of those "don't abandon your pets" commercials.)
Therefore you want her to look as good (read: UN-saggy) as possible for
as long as possible. This necessitates certain sacrifices, like having
her wear a bra most of the time.

I know I'd rather have my significant other wear one now and look good
all the way into middle age, than take it off now and sag later on.

And besides... I like perky. So sue me.

Of course, girls w/o bras look good, but not everything that looks good
is a good thing.

<Too Much Information ahead... avoid if squeamish>

I've been skinny most of my life (I'm a guy, btw, if you didn't pick
that up already), but at one point I put on quite a bit of flab (5'8"
and 176 lbs), and the first Bad Sign there was that I noticed a
slight...well, movement when jogging down stairs.

And I didn't even LOOK overweight either.

Now, if that could already cause some discomfort (not outright pain, of
course), I can certainly understand how a woman with a B cup could feel
really, really uncomfortable without the appropriate support.

Reminds me of a half-apocryphal story told to me by a professor when I
was at the University of Arizona.

One of his classes was scheduled in one of those auditoriums where the
feet of the people in one row are nearly at the head level of the
people sitting in front of them...and the lecturer's position was down
on the floor at the bottom of the room.

Quite a view.

The first day of the class, after taking attendance, he asked each
student, one at a time, to come down to the floor and look up at the
rest of the students, to see _exactly_ what the professor was seeing
while giving a lecture. They would then return to their seat, and the
next student would come down.

For the rest of the semester, no male student wore shorts and no female
student wore a short dress or mini-skirt when attending that class.

I don't get it. Why *wouldn't* anybody want their SO to wear a bra

where the straps on my bra fall, they distribute weight to the trapezius

take something more like shoulderpads.

lol let me tell you a few things.. it's not going to matter because once her
breasts become heavy, gravity takes over, or once she becomes pregnant, same
thing... so there is no un-saggy unless she is small and remains that way,
or doesn't have kids... I come from a family where my mother always said to
wear a bra so you won't sag (such a misconception!)... I so wish now I
hadn't listened to her.. I missed out on all those opportunities to look
nice and perky without a bra on... sigh.. oh well.. I guess I'm fortunate
from most women, I can say I've been every size from 32C to 44DD... (36DD
was nice..lol) unlike my 18 year old daughter who pretty much started out
at 44DD... she totally bypassed perky period.

And while we're on this topic.. anyone notice that gravity doesn't apply to
women's breasts in anime? I mean come on.. when they are standing up and
dressed.. they got nothing, but once they are naked and laying flat, they
are suddenly perfectly upright and massive?? lol.. only in anime... maybe
it's wish fulfillment... laugh..

Hmm, kind of interesting hearing it put this way, but I suppose that would
be right. Gravity does have its influence and the more mass, the stronger
the force gravity exerts on it, basic physics. And as noted or kind of
implied earlier, the constant pull of gravity on the muscles, tendons, skin,
whatever of the body is bound to take its toll eventually.

>And while we're on this topic.. anyone notice that gravity doesn't apply to

Well, we are dealing with fictitious cartoon physics here. :)

>I mean come on.. when they are standing up and

>are suddenly perfectly upright and massive??

Really? It's like totally backwards? I can't say that I've ever noticed
specific cases like that as being incorrect. Chances are there are some
things that register as looking unrealistic, but unless I actually take the
time to consciously think about it and try to figure out what exactly
appears wrong (which I usually don't) I just sort of brush it aside.
Suspension of disbelief is important sometimes.

>lol.. only in anime... maybe it's wish fulfillment... laugh..

Perhaps. I mean they do work in some things more for fan service than for
real story line purposes. It's not like I really mind though. :) Cute
busty and/or leggy women -- why would I complain if they're not actually
following real life physics if it looks good? ;)

Well, Michael Poe (Exploitation Now) has done it well.

I guess it was after I saw this tutorial on how to draw large breasts.
There was a quote on too many horny guys going for "volleyballs" and getting it
all wrong (with examples). Maybe I haven't seen enough examples to compare,
but after this, the drawings I mentioned just seemed to stick out (if you get
by the really, *really* nasty humor otherwise in it) . . .

Xenotransplantation actually shows some promise. If it works,
people who need organ transplants would no longer have to languish
on waiting lists. The doctors would simply obtain the correct type
of organ from animals bred for that purpose. (Same with stem cells-
if someone needs, say, a heart, they could just "grow" one-assuming
the religious reich drops its opposition and the research is allowed to
advance.)

As an afficinado of the more elegant cup sizes (A and B), I see absolutely
no problem with that.

Though I believe that what nature gave you is the best for your body, so I
hate to see reduction or enlargement, especially enlargement, though.

Hey, try being a Sun Devils fan. It's kinda like following the Cubs.

But at least we get a nicer home city.

You know, I am going to start college in Arizona in a year or so.

I wonder if they'll want me to take the SATs again.

We're talking about bras and breasts, who cares about the topic????

If you're going to slice the belly, you're going to slice the wrap as well,
it won't really help. IIRC, the true reason for wrapping the belly is for
warmth. Like many ancient cultures, traditional japanese put a value on the
abdominal region far beyond digestion. It was believed to promote good
heath to keep the belly warm.

Sometimes it's not a matter of what nature gave you. If you have a long term
chronic illness, certain medications may cause breast development, even in
men. Someone may start out adulthood relatively small and gradually come to
the realization that she's developed to a D cup.

Well, I'm in Virginia, but I won't say where. As for the SATs, how long ago
did you take them? I don't know the cut-off for SATs, but I think the
cut-off for the GREs is five years.

I dunno about medical texts, but I do recall an issue of National
Geographic I ran into about twenty years back, when I was about 10-11. I knew
better than to ask my mother about the differences between what I saw in the
magazine and what I saw in RL, so I had to work it out on my own. Gave me a
new appreciation for bras at a very young age...
