Once again, thanks for the great work. You are building quite the
reference tool. Never-the-less, here are my disagreements with your
list.
"Earth Girl Arjuna" - I'll contend that this is a sci-fi psychic powers
story, not a magic girl story, despite what ANN writes and even despite
Juna's transformation.
"Abenobashi Mahou Shotengai" - This is a parallel worlds fantasy not a
magic girl's series, again despite what ANN writes. There aren't any
magic girls, and the guys have the magical/psychic powers.
"Someday's Dreamers" - This is a "Psi-fi" story set in a world where
people (guys and girls) with psi powers are nothing special.
"Urusei Yatsura" isn't a bishoujo series by today's definitions, or
even then. It is a social satire/romantic comedy.
"Negima" is a bishoujo harem anime where the main male character has
magical powers.

Several of the girls are witches, too. A further few use magical artifacts.
Evangeline A.K. McDowell is both a vampire and a very potent mage.
Ayase Yue is an apprentice mage and her artifact is the ultimate
encyclopedia of magic.
Konoe Konoka is the daughter of the head of the Kyoto clan of mages and a
potent healer.
Sakurazaki Setsuna is another member of the Kyoto clan.
Miyazaki "Honya" Nodoka has an artifact that resembles a picture diary that
can reveal a person's thoughts both visually and in writing. For example, if
she or someone around you asks you a question, the book will reveal the true
answer that unavoidable comes to the surface of your mind.
And then there is Kagurazaka Asuna, the lead girl, whose "power" is immunity
to magic and is the lead bodyguard of the kid.
There are a further nine other helper girls with either magical talent
and/or artifacts plus two other girls who are part of the campus magic
"police" and tend to be clothing challenged.
Think of Negima as being along the lines of an anime called "Tuxedo Kamen"
where our hero is helped out by a bunch of girls who wear sailor fuku and
have a planet theme to their names.

(Looks around for "smilies"...)
That reminds me of the old Carol Burnett routine in which the character
that Carol is playing describes the first "Rocky" movie as being about,
"A plain, shy girl who wears glasses."
Try again... <g>

Okay, I've incorporated the Japanese Wiki:
http://magicalgirlacademy.nekomimicon.net/
(The text is smaller now because I needed to make a printout.)
-Galen
And now I've consolidated the 2 halves of the list.
http://magicalgirlacademy.nekomimicon.net/
I'm thinking that the index is complete, and I can start work on
laying out how the review pages will look.

That's just the index; I'm just getting started on the content:

Yes and no. As far as I can remember UY was the first series which
promoted bishoujo characters through merchandise such as posters or
figurines, thus anticipating common practices in later bishoujo anime.

Galen, please let me know when you think this project is ready for a

Since the front page is s'posed to be less than 100 kb,
I need to split the timeline off into it's own folder. And since
I'm going to be adding images files for the next few months,
the new front page will need a recent changes log. Let me
get the folders I've already snapped uploaded first.
Target date for a serious opening: Oct 1.

Since I'm running out of space, some stuff has to go:
Expect to lose:
Mew Mew Fanbook,
Shana
Rozen Maidens,
Girl's Bravo
Fushigi Boshi (to be replaced)
Cardcaptors (to be replaced)
Detatoko Princess
Pani Poni Dash
Vampire Princess Miyu.
So if you want those files, grab 'em soon.
-Galen
>
>Rozen Maidens,
I wonder, is this Magical Girl?
Jun, our narrator, is of course a boy, but
was Ishmael the protagonist of Moby Dick?
I may have to include it after all.
-Galen
Well, it *is* debatable whether puppets qualify as girls in the first
place.
