In a flashback, a small girl stands alone crying. We switch to the present,
and the formerly small girl is now a tall girl entering high school, but she
is still weepy. At the same time, a genki former childhood friend has grown
up to become a genki short girl entering a different but nearby high school.
The two girls become reacquainted thanks to their mothers getting back
together again once the tall girl moves back to her old town. Thus starts
"Aoi Hana", a deliberately paced yuri story with great pastel-style
backgrounds.

Everything in the first episode is telegraphed in a soft but never-the-less
unsubtle manner. This is a cliched story that is done very gently and looks
very nice, but there isn't much that is original about it. Fumi, the weepy
megane-ko, lusts hopelessly for her girl cousin. Akira, the genki red head,
is accosted by Kyouko, a predatory blond girl in her high school. Together,
everyone will learn how to create melodrama out of the mundane.

The backgrounds are the true stars of this series. You could remove the
characters and dialog and just enjoy the gorgeous panorama of street scenes.
The background music is the sort of airy "spa music" that is designed to
lull the senses. This series will be perfect for those folks who are looking
for a laid-back slice-of-life story that is full of trembling, uncertain
girls.

So I'll leave this series to those folks who appreciate this sort of thing,
and go on to others. The official webpage is at: http://www.aoihana.tv/#

Damnit, I like trembling, certain girls.

I don't know if I appreciate this sort of thing, this first episode didn't
do much for me, positive or negative. I'll give it another go.
