Last night I was watching the JPop countdown on Beat Motion (NHK Premium)
and I was wondering if there were really bands called "Scooby Do" and "Low
IQ 01" or was NHK having a subtle joke on it's overseas english speaking
audience?

Also there was this absolutely crazy song called "Guitar Samurai no uta" by
some total nutcase called Hata Youku. I can' describe it, you'll have to
listen to it yourself. Does anybody have an english translation of the
lyrics? Because I have to know why this is so popular.

This morning I was rooting in the bargain basement bin (70% off) and amidst
the really crappy canto-pop and even more crappy chinese dub Digimons I
found "Utaite Myouri", a 2CD set from Shiina Ringo. With 70% off for this
import the price went from *Totally Outrageous* to *reasonably affordable*.
So I've now ripped the CDs on to my iPod and will be listening to it for the
next few days.

By the way if anybody from toshiba-emi.co.jp is reading this and wondering
what this was doing in the discount bin, the next time try putting the name
of the artist on the cover and don't use a bit of abstract art that could
mean anything. <http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=TOCT-24780>.

The only reason I realised that this was by Shiina Ringo was that I
recognised the titles of a couple of the songs. Well yes there was a
sticker on the spine of the shrinkwrap with her name in Japanese. However
the kanji/hanzi is pronounced totally differently over here so it was
unlikely to be of much help.
