To the best of my knowledge - No they aren't. At least the DVDs aren't
from what I remember from July/August, so I suspect that the LDs also
aren't subbed. [The only subbed Anime released in Japan (and not imported
from America) that I'm aware of [there may be more] is Memories and Tenchi
Muyo in Love. (Laser Disks) and they may be with an eye to the export
market.

I don't know. While they weren't out in July/August that doesn't mean
they're not out now, however I'd guess that it's too soon. Expect them
when the TV series finishes and not before. [And ADV have nearly caught
up, BTW]

The Japanese releases of the TV series are positively not subtitled in any
language. The movies have not yet been released on video but I have heard no
reports to indicate that the movies were subtitled (which is something that
I think would have been mentioned =) Though they are not out on any home video
format, the movies are of course "out" in Japan in the sense that they were
shown in theaters. =) I know of no Chinese translation as of yet.

Well, Eva is translated into chinese (cantonese) because my friend has
the whole TV series on VCD! Of course it is done by a Hong Kong firm
and he does have them on originals (not HK pirate job). The VCD's are
bi-ligual in cantonese/japanese and it is subtitled. Anyway, thats how
I got to see the TV series.

That's right, but the first couple of disks, volume 10, volume 1 and 2,
the translation job is pretty weak. I read a couple of reviews of it, and
they say it's so horrible that they are glad that there was pirated copies
because the pirated copies are so much better in terms of translation. The
last three disks' translation is great, as I didn't see any mistranslations,
judging from the scripts I read somewhere on the net (also because it's the
only way to watch the last six episodes)...

It's not that unusual, since the company believed that people would buy
the official stuff simply because they are the official products, not the
quality. After all the negative comments, the other disks (at least the last
three) are pretty good...
>I've only seen 0080 in Japanese myself...
Well, in 0080, the Japanese is not too bad, since the actions can pretty
much translate the words, but for EVA, without those dialogue, it's hard to
understand...

Highly unusual. Then again, some fansubs are better than the prosubs
(But don't quote me on that, as I've had no chance to compare any fansub
with a commercial subtitled release).

Right now, I'm in the middle of watching the "Blue Seed" series
and it's very, very good.
hi there
(IMHO) I think that Neon Genesis Evangelion is the best anime series I
have ever seen. I love how the mecha are drawn, I love the charater
personalities, and I love the storyline. But what I love most about this
series is the mystories(sp?). I say, Keep buying the tapes after genesis
:01. by the time you get to where I am (genesis :10) you will be askin
questions, a lot of questions. :)
Also, If you think the action is good now, keep buying the other tapes
and watch the seens get better and better.
hope this helps

Depends if you like it or not. Hate to be non-committal on this one, but
questions like this are a matter of opinion and taste. Personally I think
it's great. [Currently writing an article for my fanzine about it...] It
doesn't 'start-out-well-but-then-turn-crap' like some series are prone to.
So no, speaking personally, it's not a money waster. Your mileage may
vary, but if you liked tape 1, I'd say go for it...
On tape, subbed and dubbed, episodes 1-18 of a 26 episode TV series.
I think the first few eps are on LD.
Arnold Kim
saw eps. 1-24
More than worth your money. NGE is really a spectacular show,
especially in episodes 14 onwards. Mind you, a lot of what's great
about it is psychological, so be prepared to do a lo9t of thinking.

EVA fan
Ditto that. Got a chance to see some of the stuff that hasn't been released
yet here, and it's hard to describe the shock I got, but it was not
unpleasant. If you don't mind keeping your brain in gear, it's good stuff!
