- Bare-bottom spanking ("Like Mama used to do when I was bad.")
- Frog-loli oil body rubs
- "Tail cake"
- Band Aid bathing suits
. and more.
The good folks at Xebec took what could have been "yet another" etchi harem
story and took it way beyond the usual, to the extent that some broadcasters
stopped broadcasting the series. But it was all good fun in a very
traditionally bawdy way.
Country boy Kouta-the-shouta comes to the Big City to attend high school,
but little does he know that he is actually attending Youkai High, and that
he has some special "smell" that drives the Youkai girls wild. Beautiful and
statuesque older student Chizuru is the first to become inexplicably
attracted to Kouta. Chizuru is so bewitched by Kouta's innocent charms that
she forgets her self-control and allows Kouta to see that she is really a
400 year old kitsune (although she doesn't look a day over 16).
Chizuru then starts a series of attempts to get Kouta to make love to her.
However, despite how much Kouta likes to have his face smothered between
Chizuru's ample cleavage, and also how Chizuru's bare bottom brings the SM
Nazi out in Kouta, Kouta continuously refuses to agree to Chizuru's
requests. (Of course, Chizuru did get off on the wrong foot by glibly
mentioning that Kouta would be her "first human".)
But the happy arrangement doesn't last long once another youkai, Nozomu the
wolf, comes by and starts to throw her dead-pan (and flat-chested) charms at
Kouta too. At the same time, various forces from the youkai world drop by to
test out the depth of the commitment between Kouta and Chizuru.
By episode 12 Kouta has maintained his virginity (although if he hasn't been
creaming his jeans on a regular basis then he ought to be asking his doctor
for a prescription for Viagra) but he does eventually confess his love for
Chizuru, which makes things acceptable, even for Nozomu, who becomes the
"official mistress".
So while "Kanokon" is be no means award-winning material (unless someone
submits it in an Adult Video awards competition), it was for the most part a
lively and funny sex farce that had the "balls" to go beyond the usual harem
anime tease. Unfortunately, and likely because the novels are still
continuing, we didn't get to find out why Kouta was so determined to remain
chaste, or even why he was so embarrassed to confess his feelings to
Chizuru. Both items are likely tied into the mystery surrounding the ability
that Kouta showed to go into Super-Power mode when he merges his spirit with
Chizuru, particularly when he is mad.
Currently, the big talk about the series revolves around the R2 DVD
releases, the first of which came out this week. According to a number of
bloggers, the R2 release enthusiastically takes a "giant step" beyond what
was broadcast on Saturday mornings (think about that!) and tests the bounds
of H-anime. Supposedly, the "Limited Edition" will go even further.
Being the professional scientist that I am, I will be studying my copy of
the "LE" edition very carefully when it arrives in a week or so, in order to
be able to accurately report back on any increase in "artistic merit". (Now
to find a suitable time to view the R2 on the Hi-Def TV when the Missus and
the Daughter aren't around. <LOL>)

Why couldn't *my* moving to the city from the country have been like
that...

Every story needs a McGuffin...

Holy. Freakin'. Crap.
They must be planning a straight to hentai release then, because
there's not a whole lot further they can go. Hmmm, maybe they're
going the "Mezzo Forte" route?

Grrrr, why do these things happen when I'm on a tight budget...
Cap.

I'm on an even tighter budget (as in, debt). And patiently waiting
for the digisubs of the DVD versions. Unless Media Blasters swoops
down on this like a hawk and releases it on three R1 discs for $20 a
pop, with or without dub.
Watson
First guess on what to expect: Actually seeing the bare bottom
getting spanked, instead of a whap just under the skirt hem. Second
guess: Maybe some heartier cake consumption.

Yeah, going on my 4 month of unemployment here, getting more one-
shot interviews, but still no job offers.

Mmmmm, cake...
Wouldn't mind seeing okaasan a few more times, either...

Well, I was sort-of planning a day trip to Toronto sometime next week or
the week after... <VBG>

Let me know ahead of time - maybe we can get together for bar-b-que and
anime.
