Hell yes. I love this show. While the basic setup is actually ridiculous
stupid to begin with it does work. It's like being a kid again.
And please please funi, viz or any other company out there. License it
already!

It is an extremely good series, with fascinating near-future
extrapolation, some very good mysteries, and compelling characters.
Just keep in mind that this was aimed at a youth audience by NHK, not
at an otaku audience. Never-the-less, it still acquired a sizeable
otaku audience in Japan.
I just can't figure out why no one bought the Region 1 rights to this
series.

Has anyone ever bought the R1 rights to an NHK series?

Mysterious Cities of Gold(1982-1983)
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water
It has been in the video rooms to large audiances at 3 cons I went to over
the last year. One con it was at 2 years in a row. At each showing the
rooms were filled. In the last hours of one con the room was full as the
final episode played. Even the Japanese guest recomended it and were
durring initial release watching it.
At cons when I mention cosplaying at Sachii everyone knows who that is.

I think it moves a bit slow at points. Due to the slowness I find my selft
watching the best parts over and over again.

I love it as well. I don't think it is that rediculose. Some of the tech
is way out there, but overlays on glasses could happen any day now. The
quantum link to the glasses could be possible, but a radio link would be
just as good.

I have been filling it out at every sugestion table at the cons I attend.

As fo Dennou Coil, I hope that somebody who'll treat it right gets the
rights to it. Nowadays, that means Right Stuf / Nozomi ...

"I'm *not* a kid! Nyyyeaaah!" - Skuld (in "Oh My Goddess!" OAV #3)
"When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear

Why is Funimation absent from the list?
Bobby
Perhaps he feels that they don't treat shows right. And if he indeed
feels that way, I can't blame him. Squeezeboxing series in
collections, stripping off extras...basically punishing anime fans for
discovering series late or being unable to buy the singles in the
first place. That's pretty much why I try to buy their singles cheap
as dirt when I can, whether they get money from it or not. They may
be on top of the pile now, but it's just a matter of time before the
lack of good will catches up to them.

OK, who gets kick #3?

Because I have pretty good eyesight with my glasses on and a decent TV
set, and thus can see the compression artifacts that result when more
than three or four "half-hour" episodes of a series are squeezed onto a
single DVD.

I meant it in a good way of course, it was a superb sf setting. It's one of
the shows which remind me of childhood where everything was new, fresh and
exciting. Not many shows do that, the Ghibli movies are great too in that
way, especially My Neighbour Totoro.

It's one of those thing people forget about when they are older, what
the world of children is like with their alliances and games, the
arguments and clannishness, the trading of favours and objects, the
obsessions that are all desperately important to the participants but
pretty much invisible to adults around them.
Dennou Coil won the Seiun award in 2008 for best animated series,
announced at Daicon 7 in Kishiwada.
My own thoughts about the series was that it ran on too long; it could
have made its mark in 13 episodes rather than stretching on through the
full 26. Still an impressive piece of world-construction and immersive
involvement.

I can understand that. I have several of the stuffed Funi series now. I
had not noticed it before. Can you direct me to some episodes to look at?

It'll take me a while to make a list... Do you have the second season of
Negima? (That's the FUNi release that's most quickly available to me
right now.)
Yes, but I don't remember how we purchased it. Might have been singles.
Will check.
