Truth is once again stranger than fiction. Another one of those things
that is just too good. :)

If you have ever had a burning desire to cosplay while hosting a cooking
show, maybe - I say maybe - Now Is Your Time.

Ann says two JP channels are doing a joint promotion where "Among other
activities, the two companies will jointly host classes and contests for
creating bentō (Japanese box lunches or meals) in the form of anime
characters."

"in the form of anime characters" - does that mean the boxes look like
the characters, or the hosts do? :) Inquiring minds want to know!

The press release subtitle says:

"February PR campaign with Sailor Moon character bentō classes, contests."

In the PR body:

"The two companies will begin the campaign by launching bentō classes
and contests for Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon, an anime popular with both
children and mothers in their 20s and 30s."

I wanna see Sailor Moon wreck a cooking show! Yay!

But it is not clear that hosts will be in costume. :( And probably
nobody is going to wreck a cooking show like in Vermilion Pleasure
Night. :( I suppose it depends on the ratings, or just how silly they
feel like being that week.

Thanks to ANN and its JP source, the Nikkei financial news site - link
to its page is on the ANN post.

Food Network needs to get the rights to this ASAP.

(Though they should clear up their situation with Cablevision here first-
dammit, I want my Iron Chef!)

Sort of related, why are there no Japanese Cooking panels at anime
conventions?

I've tried like freaking crazy to get one with demonstration. Almost got
it at Anime North 2004 (did the panel by myself and it was well attended
but there was discussion only), and for 3 years straight stymied by the
forces that be at Colossalcon, who ultimately banned me from attending
or volunteering ever again so fuck that.

There's always some stupid reason that comes up and I've come to realize
it's like beating your head against a brick wall. You don't get anywhere
and you might as well give up and go somewhere else.

I thought Iron Chef was on Fine Living (FLN).
