Panels and Workshops:
Anime North is committed to encouraging creativity among anime fans
with workshops in art, costuming, writing and more. New this year,
a bring and show workshop for anime music video beginners. In panels,
look for everything from deep philosophical debates about the
meaning if Shojo Kakumei Utena to the Sexiest Guy & girl in Anime.
NEW: The Steve Bennett Cell Painting Workshop. Come out and learn how
to create and paint your very own animation cells. Steve Bennett of
Studio Ironcat will be holding this wildly popular workshop for the
first time in Canada. Space is limited, so book early!! The cost for
this special event is $10.00(Cdn) to cover materials, with all proceeds
to go to charity. To reserve your space at this special workshop,

On Saturday and Sunday afternoon, come meet our guests in a special
studio setting; chat, get autographs, watch as they sketch and talk,
maybe even pick up a trade secret or two.
Video Programming:
We will have three video rooms, showing new releases and old
favourites throughout the day. For those who want to see live people
on the screen, we'll have a room showcasing action movies from
Hong Kong.
Contests and Special Events:
Anime North will have its usual array of lively contests and
special events, including Anime Name That Tune, Trivia Challenge,
The Late Night Giant Room Party, The Pokemon Pinata, Charity Raffle,
Charity Art Auction and more
Aspiring directors will have the opportunity to demonstrate their
creative genius at our annual Music Video Contest. Up to 30 entries
will be accepted for judging, one competition entry per person.

Anime North is proud to introduce the return of our Fan Fiction
Writing Contest. Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories,
plus a Grand Prize, with winners to be announced at the convention.
Entries will be accepted by both regular post and e-mail, posted
entries having priority. The contest is limited to the first 35
entries received before the deadline, one entry per person.

Members of Anime North staff and volunteers will be hosting a Giant
Saturday Late-Night Dance Party in the main ballroom, featuring music
(mostly anime music, of course :)), games, food, and at-the-door
prizes. Admission is free with convention membership.
G-North:
In honour of the year of the dragon, Anime North is proud to host G-
North, Canada's first-ever Godzilla, Gamera and Kaiju event.
Activites include videos, panels, a special collectibles display, a
trivia contest, homemade monster movie & kaiju call contests, the Big
Green Brunch and much more. See website for details.
Art Show and Model Show:
Come and see original works created by anime fans for anime fans,
and marvel at what people can create with only talent and hundreds
of hours of practice. Awards will be awarded based on fan voting.
The Silent Art Auction and the Artist's Alley. return for another

Costuming and Masquerade:
Dress up as your favorite anime, fantasy or SF character for the
weekend. The stage competition is back for 2000 so you'll get a
chance to show off your costume in a musical presentation or a short
skit. Prizes will be awarded based on workmanship and presentation.
Contestants will compete against each other based on their costuming
experience, using the WorldCon standard four division system. For

Gaming:
Anime North will be running gaming rooms open 24 hours a day for the
entire convention.

Once again, we'll have a dealer's room for this year, filled with

A Place to Hang Your Hat

The Ramada Airport East Hotel will host the convention again this
year. It's easy to get to by car or public transit, close to
restaurants and a couple of large shopping centers, with plenty of
free parking available. The hotel is offering $105 CND a night for a
single, double, triple or quad.
UPDATE: The Ramada Airport East is almost out of rooms for the
convention. We are currently in negotiations with another nearby hotel
to take the overflow. For the moment, you can still make reservations

about an announcment regarding our 3rd annual fanfic contest - yes, I'm
still a bit of a masochist to to want to run it - a couple of weeks after

The video shedual is not locked down until very close to the weekend, so we
won't be able to let you know well in advance. Trust me, I really wish it
was possible. We will have a comprehensive pocket program schedual ready to
let you know what is going on when.
