Editorial
Things are keeping me pretty busy lately so there will be no articles and
only one review this month. With the book going off to the publisher soon
things will wind down a little in September so I can get more done for the
next newsletter.
<grin> But who knows with all the good stuff coming out I may just watch
videos instead. </grin>

Kiki to be subtitled!
Buena Vista plans on releasing a widescreen subtitled version of Kiki's
Delivery Service on VHS later this year. It will have the original Japanese
sound track, music and songs!
Buena Vista hasn't set a release date yet.

Viz releases of the Patlabor manga on hold.
Patlabor is on indefinite hiatus at the moment due to low sales. Fans
should try to send a message to Viz by buying the graphic novels and
thereby upping sales statistics. The ceasing of publishing for Patlabor is
not a good thing for fans with the TV series finally coming out on tape.

Viz to release the Video Girl Ai anime in America.
Not only is Viz going to start publishing a translation of the manga in
their new magazine Animerica Extra they will be releasing the OVA series.
No date has been set at this point but fans are anxious for this to be out.
No word if there will be a subtitled version.

More titles coming from Pioneer
I have some inside information that Pioneer is planning on a U. S. release
of "Shin Tenchi Muyo" under the title of "Tenchi in Tokyo" and the Pretty
Sammy TV series possibly retitled as "Magical Sammy". The second El-Hazard
TV series is to be released in 1999 under the title of: "El-Hazard: The
Alternative World". Pioneer is also planning to release several DVDs in
1999, beginning with the Tenchi Muyo! OVA series.

Bubblegum Crisis repackaged VHS and on DVD
AnimEigo has announced that they are reissuing the 8 tape Bubblegum Crisis
series on three tapes and on three DVD Disks. The tapes will be either
subbed or redubbed and the DVD will be in Japanese with subtitles in
English and French and redubbed in English.

The Erotic Anime Movie Guide
The Erotic Anime Movie Guide

Due in October.
Helen McCarthy and Jonathan Clements have teamed up to give us another
anime guide.
But this is more than just a guide to the hard ecchi stuff it or an anime
catalogue with side bars like McCarthy's excellent Anime Movie Guide. This
book is also a well thought out study of eroticism in anime in its various
forms.
The Erotic, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder this combined with
the emotionally charged issue of sex in animation make erotic anime a
difficult topic. This book addresses the topic well with a variety of
essays covering a variety of forms the erotic has taken in anime.
The filmography section is less than half of the book but even so a
categories and ratings system greatly help get an idea of the content of
the anime described. I was surprised at some of the anime listed here but
upon a little reflection I agreed that these titles did belong here, after
all eroticism is found in more places than just porn.
Even if you have no interest in the hentai stuff I recommend this book as a
good source of information about anime and worthwhile addition to your
library. I even learned that the first animation to get an X rating in the
U. S. was by Tezuka.

Don't bet on it. "Redub" is apparently the technical term for "dub."
I've seen it in several places "available in Japanese with English
subtitles or English redub." Don't get yourself all excited, this is
most likely the Southwynde hack-job we all know and hate.
