Author's notes: This is designed to set up a few of the character
backgrounds as well as whet the appetites of my fans out there. The
first issue in which the heroes and villains clash won't be for awhile
since I also have the Dream Team to work on. Still, enjoy this! And

-----------------------------------------------------
The original Justice League of Nerima consisted of Green Lantern Kimiko
Tendo, her husband Soun Tendo, better known as the Blue Beetle, and his
good friend Genma Saotome, better known as Booster Gold. These three
battled injustice in Japan. They went up against crime bosses, all
kinds of criminals, terrorists, strange cults, and many other foes that
sought to do harm to people.
Kimiko Tendo was the wife of Soun Tendo. She was a very loving wife and
deeply cared about her family. She was also one of the many Green
Lanterns throughout the universe. Many years ago, Kimiko was endowed
with a green energy battery and a green power ring after her initiation
into the Gree Lantern Corps. She used the power given to her to help
uphold good and justice in Japan.
Soun Tendo was her husband as well as the main instructor for the Tendo
School of Anything Goes Martial Arts. His inventor skills were quite a
help to him and her as they battled evil. His martial arts training and
inventor skills were his only superpowers as he became the Blue Beetle.
Though obviously not as powerful as his wife was, Soun still was
formidable thanks to his many devices.
Then there was Genma Saotome, instructor to the Saotome School of
Anything Goes Martial Arts. Soun had built a special suit for him. It
was a gold and blue suit armed with flying ability and energy cells.
Soun had built it so that the energy cells could be used to fire blasts
at enemies and also envelop the user in a force field that could protect
from enemy attacks. Genma then took the name Booster Gold and assisted
the Tendos in the fight against injustice. The three were able to keep
the peace in Japan for years.
Of course, if you think being a superhero is tough, try being a parent.
Soun and Kimiko were blessed with three beautiful daughters. There was
Kasumi, Nabiki, and Akane. They brought so much joy to their parents
and looked up to them because they were superheroes. Perhaps someday
they would carry on the Justice League.
However, a great sadness was soon among the Tendo family. Kimiko had
been off on a mission for the Green Lantern Corps. She went up against
a deadly foe that caused Kimiko to contract a rare disease. A rare,
incurable disease that is. Kimiko Tendo was hospitalized immediately.
But nothing could be done for her. Even the Green Lanterns were puzzled
as to her condition and announced sadly that they could not help either.
Akane was too young to understand what was going on. She did not
understand what was wrong with her mother and why her father and sisters
were looking so sad. Kimiko had been growing weaker day after day and
the doctors said that nothing more could be done and that her final hour
had come. Kimiko had requested to see her husband alone before her
final goodbye. When Soun was alone with her in the room, she told him
her wishes.
"Akane must carry on my work as a Green Lantern. On her fifteenth
birthday, you will give her my battery and ring which is buried under
the floorboard in the basement marked with the green X on it. Please do
this," she said weakly. Soun acknowledged. His wife kissed him and
soon her children came in to say their goodbyes. Thirteen minutes
later, Kimiko Tendo died.
Soun continued his duty as a superhero along with Genma. His daughters
grew up to be fine young women. Kasumi had taken on the spitting image
of her mother, taking care of the household duties. Nabiki had become a
very successful entrepeneur and took care of the family finances. But
Akane was the odd one out. She became very agressive and would
frequently get into fights with almost anyone. Teaching her martial
arts didn't seem to teach her any control. Was it because her grief
for her mother eventually turned into bitterness and anger that could be
set off at the drop of a hat? Soun wondered if she was worthy of
becoming a Green Lantern. But he honored his wife's wishes and did as
commanded. When Akane turned fifteen, Soun revealed the truth to her.
"Your mother was a Green Lantern. When you turned fifteen, your mother
asked me to give you this," he told her. Soun gave Akane the green
energy battery. Feeling its warm green glow, Akane noticed the green
ring and put it on her finger. Soon a green light surrounded her and
soon she wore her mother's uniform. It was one consisting of a red
spandex top with a green lantern insignia on the chest and green spandex
pants and a cape to match. Soun smiled and tears came to his eyes.
"You look so much like your mother," he said, with tears running down
his eyes. Akane swore that from then on, she would make her mother
proud and do her best as a Green Lantern.
As time went on, strange powers began to awaken within Kasumi and
Nabiki. Kasumi seemed to have green fire come from her hands from time
to time and it also could surround her body too. Nabiki had very cold
hands and when she wanted to, could touch objects to freeze them. What
could this mean? It meant that they had strange powers too and they
wished to join their father as part of the Justice League. They soon
made their own costumes.
Kasumi made a green spandex costume that was low cut. She called
herself "Fire". Nabiki made a blue and white spandex costume as well.
She called herself "Ice". Soon the Justice League was reborn.
The Saotomes were blessed themselves too. In fact, they thought that
the gods answered their prayers because soon enough, something came
hurtling towards Earth, nearby their house.
To be continued...........

In the next preludes, the backgrounds to Superman, Green Lanterns Ukyo
and Kuno, and Batman will be revealed. Until then, I hope this will
whet your appetites. Til next time!
