Why not talk about it here? The reason to create a new group is
to relieve traffic problems in more general groups. There doesn't
seem to be a lot of Lantz discussion here lately... although I
would enjoy seeing some chat about that.
Green eyed Woody is the best.

Woody was my absolute favorite when I was about 5. I got a Woody
Halloween costume w/ early crazy mask, which my older brother used to
terrorize the rest of us sibs... *sigh....GOOD times!* It would please
me no end to see the 1940s titles on TV again, being absent a good 10
years now...right? Anyone know different?

Doesn't Cartoon Network have a Woody show on now? If they do they'd be
crazy to just play the late 50's early 60's Woody where his main nemisis is
some old woman(in my opinion the lowest point in animation at the time,
well at least if you leave out the Daffy/Speedy cartoons from that time)
I agree with Stephen though, the green eyed, buck toothed Woody was the
best, too bad Lantz toned him down:P

Those D/S cartoons came out in the mid-late 1960s.
I agree, that woman was awful (Grace Lantz,I think voiced her though,no hard
feelings for her, just the idea..I respect everyone there. To parahrse Leonard
Maltin from OF MICE AND MAGIC at the end of the Lantz chaper,It';s hard to find
me sayin a bad word about the man (LAntz).
Ah..Stephen woudkl be Stephen L.Worth...A lot of characters WERE being toned
dwn in the fiftiers, weren';t they 9even Bugs Bunny, esp.Frleeng and Jones-madfe
great shorts though.)

Sorry,mistake there.
They show 'em up here on YTV, Vince. It's a 1/2 hour rehash of the old
syndicated show from the '50s .. except it's missing the linking
stuff like the phoney newsreels that Lantz and Woody used to narrate.
Too bad.
The 1940 Woodys are best .. the later 40s had Fred Moore, Pat Matthews
and Grim Natwick working on them. Art Heinemann and Phil DeGuard were
around then, too. I admit I'm partial to the earliest ones that Blanc
voiced .. maybe because they have a lot of the Warners feel to them.

PS.. if you want to start a Lantz newsgroup, I think there's info in
alt.config about how to do it. The idea of an alt.animation.mgm has
been brought up a couple of times .. someone simply has to go ahead and
do it. At least they'd serve a purpose, unlike a lot of the new alt. groups
that pop up on my ISP.
